A Jew named Mary?

Anonymous
I'm pretty sure this is not legit, since you've outed yourself with first names and last name.

However, if it is true, I'll say Mary is not the right name for this baby.

First of all, it's SO different from your other kids.

Second of all, Miriam with the nickname Miri is adorable and a much, much better fit.

If the Jewish religion, Jesus was a prophet, right? So his mother's name can be used just like any other.

No, in the Jewish religion Jesus was not a prophet. I think you are thinking of Islam.

And yes, that’s one of the very few no-go names for a Jewish kid, along with Christian and Mohammed.

This was probably 30 years ago, but I have met a Jewish boy named Christian. For lack of another word, I was very confused. Both parents were Jews.

I knew a Christian man named Christopher who converted to Judaism and upon doing so, changed his name to David.

Why not Maryam or Miriam OP.

This has to be a troll. You want to have a Malkah, Tovah and a Mary?

In case you are not joking, just pick another M name - Mira, Maya, Miri, Merrill, Mayra, Matea.

Mary the mother of Jesus was Jewish....

I had a doctor named Mary followed by a common Jewish surname. I always assumed she was Jewish, didn't think twice about it. But maybe she was half Irish and half Jewish. I don't know.

I know a Jewish man named Christian. He was born in Hitler-occupied territory during WW2.

I would be surprised to meet a Jewish Mary but for me that’s not that big a deal until I hear your other children’s names. Paired with those, it is a very big deal imho.

If you don't like Miriam, what about Meredith?

I grew up with a Jewish friend named something like Christopher Cohen. People talked about how weird it was behind his back all the time.

What about Mara? I wouldn't do Mary given your other kids names but don't think it would be as odd as Kristen! I do know multiple Merediths that are jewish and have seen some go as meri

LOL "discredit her Jewishness"

No "Jew" names a kid Mary.

She's not a Jew he or she is a troll.

I knew someone would say this at some point. I even contemplated adding a disclaimer to my post. I'm not a troll. This post is serious, and I appreciate all of the serious replies that I have received. Thanks.

We hadn't considered Meredith, but I do love it. It's very pretty. Thank you for the suggestion.

That is a concern of mine and part of why we have avoided using Mary so far. I'm sure that we would receive some negative feedback from family and friends. I'm somewhat sensitive to criticism (unfortunately). DH is the opposite of me in that aspect.
