Tibetan Monks Walk for Peace

Do you think they'll walk up Delacarlia Parkway to get to Massachusetts Avenue or is that too roundabout? I live near AU and would rather try to see them on Monday morning than Tuesday at National Cathedral or elsewhere. Just trying to figure out where to stand!

. It’s supposed to be rolling, so they shouldn’t shut from Marymount all the way to Chain Bridge all at once, but yeah, it’s going to be fun. Wonder what drop off at Jamestown will look like.

Honestly more concerned about those of us who need to cross the chain bridge. There's not much room on Canal for cars AND monks walking.

It's odd, DC hasn't put out anything about road closures yet. I admire this walk for sure, but to walk the chain bridge and canal rd which does not have a side walk in rush hour, you'd think DC would put out an alert. Personally, we need to get to Sibley Hospital that morning and need to see if we need another route.

It’s not happening until Tuesday. Today is Saturday.

Monday they are in Alexandria, walking to Arlington. Tuesday is Arlington across chain bridge to AU then to Cathedral.

thanks for this, but if we're looking to see them along their route, how do we find out what that is? I'd rather wave to them while they're walking than go join crowds at the Lincoln or Cathedral.

They put the root for the upcoming day on their Facebook page.

Some are, some from France and other countries. The lead monk is aVietnamese-American who went to UT and worked as an engineer at Motorola before becoming a monk.

Still no word on DC road closures

I saw them yesterday on Rt. 1 in the Mount Vernon area. As far as road closures, Rt. 1 was open in both directions until right before the monks walked by. A few police cruisers drove by telling people to get off the road. Then a huge caravan of police cars (marked and unmarked) were driving at "parade speed" across the two lanes of northbound Rt. 1 and the monks were walking behind them. Southbound remained opened. One cruiser stopped at the cross street where we were standing to prevent any cross traffic from going onto Rt. 1. As soon as the monks passed us, cars were back on Rt. 1 going north (although slowly).

This was at 4:00pm on Super Bowl Sunday so the traffic on Rt. 1 was probably lighter than usual. But they did not close the road before the monks walked by - it was similiar to what you would see with a funeral procession except at a slower pace.
