Awwww, you're so desperate. Your dumb nonsense is not working. My 22 year old is working full time, living on her own and going to college. My 20 year old is working full time and lives on her own completely independent. My 16 year old is doing great in HS and is on his way to an engineering program. I just didn't blame them for being a shitty parent and actually instituted some rules when they were young. Try it and see how it goes. |
Bodies are different if the kids aren't cold what do you care? |
You do you, babe. Nobody really cares. |
Exactly. It's really sad how many people have completely lost the thread and can't have a conversation about anything without bringing politics into it. As much as I hate Trump, he has nothing to do with how I parent my kid. |
Clearly, you care. And so do other people when they see your poor kids at the bus stop. ALSO and most importantly, your kids care. They need a parent, not a lazy, permissive dimwit. |

DS (15) is still wearing shorts. He does add a hoodie. I've given up fighting the battle. One day there will be a fire drill at school and maybe that will encourage him to wear pants. He tells me it's too warm in the building to wear pants. Over the years, I've asked him to put a pair of sweats in his backpack just in case---nope, he knows best.
I don't fight this battle anymore. I started giving up around 4th or 5th grade. |
They ARE cold!!! Your poor kids. |
Not one of them has ever pushed back on their mother’s sartorial choices for them? |
It is your job as a parent to dress your kids appropriately for the weather. |
You people are too much. Do your kids not voice their every whim and thought? They would certainly speak up if they were. They run around, have fun, and are no worse for the wear. The ones who are always cold will dutifully wear the coat. Magically it just all works out with no visits to the hospital for frost bite. Imagine that. |
Sure, sure....so when I see kids shivering at the bus stop, it's just a hoax? It's total BS and you know it. But I suspect you'll never admit that you're actually failing as a parent. |
So it’s not just my kid! Mine constantly has his winter coat and lunch in his backpack (lunchbox in a lunch bag, all shoved in his backpack!). I’m afraid his backpack won’t last the year. At least he now wears a hat and sweatshirt pretty consistently. |
You didn’t answer the question. If your 16-year-old decided not to wear a coat to school on a cold day, what would you do? |
I make my kid take his coat, but I still see middle schoolers and high schoolers shivering AND also consistently not taking their coats. I guess coats are uncool? Or they don’t want to have to schlepp it around all day? |
| They don’t want to parent, that’s why. |
