My cousin graduated with his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2024 and under the advice of his advisor, only looked for jobs outside of the US.

He was quickly hired by a lab in Germany, and is now helping some of his fellow academics transfer their research to Germany to complete their studies and/or get jobs.

He's theorized that it'll take 25 years, an entire generation, for the US scientific community to recover.

This is insightful. An underlying principle for MAGA is that they don’t respect people they don’t know. MAGA assumes the worst about everyone outside their bubble - they are all scammers trying to steal money (via government programs) from their families. You can’t build a society when you hate nearly all of your fellow citizens.

I think there is going to be significant brain drain this time around. Last Trump term people were messing around saying there were going to leave, but this time I think people actually will. Whole career fields are getting knocked out.

Other posters just mention that science will be done elsewhere. So why does science have to be done here at taxpayers expense?
