No way !!! And not Zika, ebola, West Nile virus, TB or monkeypox either. Those came from white nationalists !!!

Since you’re cherry picking in an attempt to make some sort of racist point, don’t forget smallpox, measles, typhoid, mumps, and influenza. Those were introduced to this hemisphere by white settlers.

I'm still miffed at the Biden administration for letting international travel but requiring my kindergartener to mask.

Democrats love science as long as it agrees with them. Restricting travel and quarantining visitors works.

But you're not miffed that "drink the bleach" Trump, who was president when COVID19 started, didn't take it seriously and let it get so bad in the US?

Thank god Sleepy Joe came in and cleaned the sh*t up. My fiance was living in Australia at the time and they returned to life so much quicker than the US because their government officials took it seriously and half of their population doesn't deny science.

I am not a Biden fan but one thing he did very well was get the US back on course after Trump's mismanagement of COVID19. I was a Trump guy in 2016 but his handling of the pandemic among other things made me a not-Trump guy in 2020, 2024, or now.

And science isn't partisan. Maybe the democrats wouldn't think that all red hat wearers were ignorant if they didn't say ignorant things and deny science all the time.

It was over by the time Trump left office, Biden drug it out for political reasons. EG making kids wear masks.

Trump was the POTUS during Covid masks, not Biden. When Biden became president, mask mandates were determined by school districts, not the White House. My kid was not required to wear a mask at school, but he attended a charter school.

This doesn't bode well for the future for our children or country. A result of people trashing the teaching profession and abusing our schools.

Isn’t that really good for those states?

How is an uneducated state good for the state?

I think the poster means that most people in the state voted to not prioritize education or solutions to the teacher shortage.

Why would you quarantine visitors but allow it to spread freely in schools?

It doesn't make sense to you does it.

DP... I think it's pretty amazing that some of you think somehow kids don't spread diseases. Snot bubbles, touching everything with sticky fingers everywhere and so on. It's an absolute fact that COVID contact tracing data showed that schools were among the top places where COVID was being spread. Clearly some of are either completely unobservant to the realities of life and human nature where it comes to little kids, either that or you grew up and still live isolated in your mom's basement.

It's one thing to live with whatever grows in the snot bubbles of our kids, but why do we import the viruses from snot bubbles in India, South Africa, Mexico? Not that I am particularly convinced that kids pose that much of threat, it just seems your chain of reasoning and rationalization isn't very good. Why are you so worried about my kids, what about the ones in China, don't they have couddies too? Then there were the rich people across town who didn't care and were paying for all kinds of private lessons for their kids.

“couddies” 🤪 “imported viruses”

Why did we import European snot bubble viruses starting in the 1600s?

Should we start slapping tariffs on them?

If it’s not from the Covid region of France, is it just sparkling respiratory virus?

It was very much not over in January 2021. That was one of the deadliest months on record, with 460,000 deaths in the US.

The proposed drop in federal funding for science research, if approved by Congress, could let China match or take the lead in global science investments, Ms. Zimmermann said. ... In April, the science group published figures showing that China had greatly increased support for its scientific enterprise in the past two decades. As of 2023 — the most recent year available for comparisons — China’s investment was close to equaling that of the United States.

If we stop the h1b and opt visa programs , US will surge to the lead again in innovation.

Masters and phds will be more highly valued and more US citizens will flock to these programs

What h1b was meant to do and what it successfully did was devalue a PhD and masters degree , which is the opposite of what we need for long term prosperity

How on earth is this miraculous turn around going to happen when they've cut science funding off at the knees? My kid is supposed to start a STEM PhD this fall. Funding is down the toilet - I'll be amazed if more that 1 year of the PhD is funded - she'll be wasting that first year worrying and trying to get herself overseas to a safe haven for science that has some funding. NSF funding which also helps fund PhD students was also loped off. I hope I'm wrong. Plus competition will be fierce. There's no coherent plan, just indiscriminate cutting. And no, they can't use their reserves and no, the decimated bio tech companies aren't swooping into start funding blah, blah, blah.

Focus money on US citizens. Stop opt. Stop f1. Stop the replacement is US citizens with cheaper foreigners.

There would be lots of openings and money

The US hasn't been the first in science in a long time. Ever since political science supplanted science.

Thanks again, progressive turd burglars.

I wish I could teleport you to MAGA land where I live. The only thing they "flock" to is NASCAR and sporting events.
