Senior Walk

Lake Braddock did not do it back then. They started after COVID and were so pleased. My 2023 grad loved it. The elementary kids love it too! It gives them something to look ahead to and sets some goals for themselves. And before someone gets all DCUM and says graduation is not a goal, it’s a given, I know plenty of kids who struggle to pass all the necessary classes and need a boost in attitude for the future.

My kids’ elementary school does this every year. I went to watch and it was neat to see the graduates all grown up when I remembered them as little kids. Many of them go to different high schools, so it was fun to see all of the different caps & gowns and hear the graduates’ future plans.

I thought that this started at Title 1 schools to encourage younger kids to stick with school and kee[ working at it so they can graduate. It was meant to show the kids that High School graduation was possible and to let them see kids who had succeeded.

I could be wrong.

We had Lake Braddock kids at my WSHS kid's elementary school last year. It was spots of purple and gold in a sea of blue and orange.

WSHS has done this for years, since my now college students and grads were in elementary school. When they were little, they always hot excited when the "big kids" did their graduation parade.

The old principal would blare celebration music through the school PA system when the seniors matched, making the event even more special. He also had the 6th graders do the same kind of parade through the halls when they finished their promotion ceremony.

I don't think they do music any more, but they still do the parade.

WSHS has done this for years and years. Definitely not a title 1 school, but they are a school that under the old principal did everything it could to make the high school and pyramid feel generationally connected like a small community school system.

Oh this makes me happy for my lake braddock kid who attended a split feeder elementary. Maybe he'll get to reconnect with his former elementary school friends who eneded up at WSHS for an afternoon before graduation

Does Haycock ES do this?

That was tongue in cheek, but aren't there security concerns in 2025?

No. What a weird statement.

It's not County-wide and it has to be coordinated within the pyramid. Madison pyramid does it, but I don't know how long they've been doing it. Talk to your HS principal if you want your kid's school to do it.

I remember doing that prade when I was in 6th grade that was in 2000. We Didn't have a senior walk and I love that idea.

We're in the Robinson pyramid, and it's a big thing.

I roll my eyes at a lot of things, but this is a really sweet tradition for everyone.

The students do not have to participate, and many do not. My guess is that your kids' school does have this tradition, but your kids chose not to do it. NBD. Two of my kids have graduated from Chantilly, and they did not do the walk. (They are very unsentimental boys. )

Leaving aside the tradition, this seems like a normal amount of teacher turnover to me.

Someone came up with a sweet idea, and after a year or two it becomes a tradition. It's just one more obligation. Things keep getting added to things-that-are-nice to do, and it's too much. So many events honoring Seniors. OP, time to play grown up and learn fast, adults have other time consuming obligations. Work is hard.

PP here. No, they actually do not have this tradition at all. Seems to be school specific.
