Senior Walk

Lake Braddock did not do it back then. They started after COVID and were so pleased. My 2023 grad loved it. The elementary kids love it too! It gives them something to look ahead to and sets some goals for themselves. And before someone gets all DCUM and says graduation is not a goal, it’s a given, I know plenty of kids who struggle to pass all the necessary classes and need a boost in attitude for the future.

Our Lake Braddock 2015 and 2016 did the Senior Walk at their elementary school.

We had Lake Braddock kids at my WSHS kid's elementary school last year. It was spots of purple and gold in a sea of blue and orange.

WSHS has done this for years, since my now college students and grads were in elementary school. When they were little, they always hot excited when the "big kids" did their graduation parade.

The old principal would blare celebration music through the school PA system when the seniors matched, making the event even more special. He also had the 6th graders do the same kind of parade through the halls when they finished their promotion ceremony.

I don't think they do music any more, but they still do the parade.

Oh this makes me happy for my lake braddock kid who attended a split feeder elementary. Maybe he'll get to reconnect with his former elementary school friends who eneded up at WSHS for an afternoon before graduation

It’s definitely well coordinated now, which is great. It’s lovely for everyone. The seniors feel special, the elementary school kids cheer, they take a bunch of pictures with old friends who they maybe haven’t seen in a while. LBSS posts it on their website and sends it out with the senior info now. https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/senior_class

The students do not have to participate, and many do not. My guess is that your kids' school does have this tradition, but your kids chose not to do it. NBD. Two of my kids have graduated from Chantilly, and they did not do the walk. (They are very unsentimental boys. )

PP here. No, they actually do not have this tradition at all. Seems to be school specific.

Please name the FCPS high school which does not have this tradition. Curious minds want to know (or validate )

We have it in the South Lakes pyramid and my ES student is stoked to show off his Sr. big brother to his class. Like our pyramid’s HC parade featuring all of the schools in the pyramid, it’s a great tradition and makes a huge school system feel a little more like a small town for just a bit.

That was tongue in cheek, but aren't there security concerns in 2025?

Oh my god, what is wrong with you? Security concerns? From seniors doing a walk through the hallways dressed up in cap and gowns?

I could be wrong.

Our ES is the opposite of Title I (like a 3% low income population) and from what I've heard, it's a long standing tradition - I remember them doing it when my 8th grader was in K.

We did this when I was in high school (not in FCPS), too!

We're in the Oakton pyramid and kids came to our ES last year.

Marshall HS and Falls Church HS participate in this tradition as well.

That is so sweet. Brothers

I teach ES in the Centreville pyramid and we definitely have this tradition. It’s great to see former students.
