All part of the plan. |
And? |
That sounds nice, but let’s be honest: it’s not the real reason. The real reason is to delay, delay, delay and wait a few years and hope the next administration lets them stay even though we all know they’re illegal. |
The real reason is that it's literally Constitutional law and how the Supreme Court has interpreted our constitution articles 5 and 14, historically |
*Amendments 5 and 14, not articles |
He didn't "let them in" - he followed the US and international law. Processing people claiming asylum takes time. It would take less time if there were more administrative judges available to hear the cases and make designations to grant or deport. "for some reason" Trump opposed having more judges and got the GOP to opposed their own bill authorizing them. If people are here too long, it is because of the GOP, who at least 4 times, thwarted efforts to expand the administrative infrastructure in our country. |
My three years of law school (including a year on constitutional law), and bars in 3 states say you’re wrong. And, that if Trump funded immigration Judges instead of firing them, there would not be delay, delay, delay. |
It isn't our fault you don't "quite understand" the Constitution. It is very clear and the Supreme Court has upheld due process for ALL PERSONS many times. In any case, for God's sake can you at least admit that people should not be sent to a concentration camp without due process??? Deporting is one thing, sending to CECOT is another. ANd don't start with the "Maduro wouldn't take them" bull$hit. Maduro has been open to accepting deported Venezuelans for a month and Trump tried to send a new flight to El Salvador this weekend. |
They aren't even decent enough for that!! |
I do love people who think the Constitution is optional. Except 2A which was apparently handed down by God. |
The problem where do we detain everyone until we can do the "short review of documents." They are still coming in at an untenable rate - even if Trump hadn't fired any judges, how do we process (and mostly deport) all of these people without setting them loose into the country and asking them to pinky swear they will appear? |
By putting a monitor on them, detaining them or hiring more judges. Again, the Constitution— not option when it inconveniences you. Also— border crossings? Right now down to 100-300 people a day. (And fewer if you consider family units). If we stop firing immigration judges, that’s very manageable. Do you have any idea how many claim SSA ALJs process (with 10-20 page opinions)? |
Most of them need not be detained. They were living here peacefully. They are band have been capable of showing up to court proceedings. |
Study after study shows that, despite what the Trump administration pretends, illegal immigrants are actually less likely to commit crimes than US citizens.
Here are a couple studies: Light, M. T., Miller, T. R., & Massoglia, M. (2017). Immigration and Crime: Assessing a Contentious Issue. Annual Review of Criminology, 1(1), 385-408. * highlights the lower crime rates among immigrants. Nowrasteh, A. (2020). Illegal Immigrants and Crime—What the Evidence Shows. Cato Institute. * undocumented immigrants have lower crime rates than native-born Americans. |
Hope you're next. |
