Border Patrol does not need a warrant. As stated this was 2014, before Trump |
I'm sure wearing your trump gear helped too. |
Only to show it’s not race based like you want to assume. You got me, I’m a facist, feel better now? |
Dang you just cannot stop lying even when it’s literally there in print. You wrote: “Police can do all of these things if they are legally detaining someone” |
Given his name and background, it's likely he was targeted. I wouldn't be surprised if he had posted something against the state of Israel that got him stopped |
You got me. I had Trump gear in 2014. |
They can seize your phone and keep it for 5 days. They can't force you to give up a password. |
That was a different poster. That’s why they started with DP. Again, don’t just read, try and understand what you read. |
But it is race based. On a random stop, of which happened to me last year in canada, I was asked a few extra questions. Never asked for my phone and we moved straight on. I certainly wasn't thrown in a cell like this and the other at least 25 people who came forward in 2017. We are doing the same stuff under this administration we did back then which is not the same as our random pullovers Why is it so hard for you to accept? |
Because I was stopped in 2014. I was moved to a building, and asked for my phone. Why is it so hard for you to accept it’s happened for years before Trump? |
No one is saying it hasn't happened. That is a part you're not hearing. But your inability to see the difference between being moved to a different building for additional screening and what happened to these people is mind boggling. Sometimes, we do just have privilege and it's okay to acknowledge that. |
Here's an even worse "American citizen getting jailed by ICE story" - maybe we need a separate thread for these as they're becoming more common.
A 19-year-old American citizen, Jose Hermosillo, who was lost in Tucson, and walking near Border Patrol HQ, was arrested for illegally entering the country because he had no identification on him. They claimed they arrested him in Nogales, near the border, but he says he's never been to Nogales. He spent 10 days locked up before he could get before a judge and convince him he was an American citizen.

Start carrying your papers with you everywhere I guess. ICE claimed that this American citizen said he entered the country illegally. Sure, Jan. Arrested for no crime except not having identification. Which is not a crime in America. But give it a couple minutes. Someone will be here to defend this |
DP. I think what's different now is that there is evidence that the new administration is using AI to monitor social media for posts seen as supporting Hamas or critical of Israel (more troubling). The program is called “Catch and Revoke” and focuses on non-citizens. But a lot of civil rights groups are concerned that similar tools could be used on US citizens. That's what's different this time around. |
It sounds like what happened isn’t quite clear with these people. I’ll hold off on making any comments about the case.
I think everyone should take a few moments to learn about your rights when you’re crossing a border. They are not the same as when you’re in the US. If you are going to be traveling internationally, the easiest thing to do is to bring a burner phone. |
