DP. I've seen this previously when traveling. It also happens hundreds of times a day by police. Police can do all of these things if they are legally detaining someone. Supreme Court has already spoken on the issue.

Stop lying. You have to have probable cause. And no you do not have to grant them access to your phone data without a warrant.

How long we were in Canada, what was the purpose of the trip, did we buy or sell anything, etc. They said it was a random flag. Not a cell, but was in a building.

You do not, let me repeat, you do not have to tender your passwords. The government has fifteen days to figure out how to retrieve the information without your assistance, but in doing so, the government cannot retrieve any information in the cloud without a warrant.
