Yeah, but their whole identity up to this point is tied to sending their kids to private schools so you can’t expect them to stop now. |
Studies over three decades have consistently found between 50 and 80% of college students admit to having cheated in college. There is no cheating “demographic.” |
UVA is far more similar to UNC. |
My response was to the previous post. Idiot. |

If you are using USNWR as your standard, then either UVA is overrated or W&M is underrated. UVA and WM have almost identical GPA and SAT/ ACT scores at 25%/50%/75%. In some cases WM has higher stats. There used to be about 10 spots difference between the two in USNWR. But when USNWR started emphasizing things like FGLI/pell grant %, and stopped considering things like the quality of undergrad teaching, the spread went from 10 places to 30 places— in one year.
Maybe UVA is overrated by USNWR. Maybe WM is underrated. But, these school attract the same caliber students. And IMO the quality of undergrad teaching is very important for undergrad students. They should have a similar ranking. Up to you to decide if that ranking should be in the 20s, early 40s or mid 50s. |
Nope, UNC is a tier above. Overall much closer to U of Florida. |
+1 |
NP. Absolutely agree. |
Ok, this is ridiculous. You need to go outside and get some sunshine. UNC is not ranked higher, the stats of admitted students are not higher, the experience is not better, etc. I have a kid admitted to UVA and UNC and we've been scrutinizing them for the past 3 weeks and UVA comes out ahead on pretty much every measure except for basketball. I have no pre-determined alliance to UVA. I would actually love it if my kid decided on UNC (we're OOS and it's cheaper!!) but we can't find evidence that supports it as being a better school besides the rants of the UVA haters on DCUM. I've read everything I can, posted multiple times on College Confidential and Reddit, etc. |
Congratulations. This just might be the stupidest thing I've ever right on this board. And that's saying something. |

Yup. Tier 1: Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, UNC Tier 2: Florida, UVA, UT Austin, UCSB, etc. |

Poster here whose kid is deciding on UNC vs UVA.
Please give me evidence that shows that UNC is "a tier above" UVA. I would welcome it. I would like evidence not just "because I say so." I have been pouring over the internet looking for concrete reasons to choose one school over the other. |
| UNC > UVA |
But why? What is better? |
