What do people want if they don't want detection machine?

Taylor doesn't seem ready or willing to tackle safety issues. When asked about the BCC lockdowns, we were told they happen everywhere and it's a hard problem to solve.

It takes years to get any kind of discussion going, years to nail down a plan and years to get funding and years to implement.

This is not fair to our kids. Taylor doesn't seem to care any more than McNight did.

When BCC has a gun on campus, there is momentum for change.

BCC is a hot mess. My hs sr shakes his head at all the drama there. This isn’t happening at Churchill where the principal Taylor doesn’t play that nonsense.

If he doesn't want to take on the hot issues, be adult enough to step aside.

This forum has Bethesda area posters but posters with students at Whitman, WJ, and Churchill are not writing about incidents in their schools on this board because either they just don't or such incidents are not happening at those schools.

You think Principal should change there? Who can take on this role at that school if not current P?

That's called parenting and monitor and strict what your child does.

I do, but I’m a teacher and responsible for 160 kids whose parents don’t.

Clear backpacks. The small ones.

Doubt all of the parents of those 160 students do not parent. Please stop with the drama.

In a way, schools don't control how many lockdowns they will have. Anytime there's a shooting, a rumor of a shooting, a gun sighting or rumor of, a commotion around or near schools grounds, there will be a lockdown or shelter in place.

But are metal detectors the only answer? I can't imagine how every kid's backpack won't go off either with their Chromebooks or their stainless water bottles, their lunch thermos or other metal objects they carry with them.

I'm all for increased safety. A gun in school is my worst nightmare. But it doesn't seem rational that metal detectors are the only answer....

Many of us are heavily involved and you’d know it if you responded to email and -or remind.

That would not work with a Chromebook, notebooks and other supplies and lunch. There are no lockers.

People who work in settings with metal detectors say it works and helps to stop bring in unwanted weapons. Has MCPS had a detector in any of its facilities?

Many school districts have metal detectors and have figured it out. It is not rocket science
