Agree that Texas is stronger than Florida. But under no measure is Georgia a peer of Florida. It’s Vandy, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M then everyone else……Arkansas. |
The average admitted stats for UGA are much higher. https://www.admissions.uga.edu/blog/2025-uga-overall-ea-admissions/ |
And some of us disagree because of UF’a reliance on online classes and some of the restrictions placed on it by its governor. But you get to send your kid wherever you want. |
Yes the wait sucks. We’re right there with you, deferred in-state. Best of luck to our kids! |
That's very skewed. UGA notoriously defers a lot of applicants in early action and then accepts a lot of those deferred applicants in regular pool when a lot of the admitted "higher stats" kids in early action go elsewhere. Don't forget their early action decision is in early December which is very early in the process for these kids. Need to look at the entire pool to get a glimpse of where things will fall ultimately. |
Mine prefers UGA over UVA. Didn’t consider applying to the others. |
"because of UF’a reliance on online classes" Sorry, but this is complete myth and nonsense. Online classes, like at all large public universities, exist but students do not need to take them. Some do because many students like them and find it flexible in their schedules and choose to that rather than in person. Nevertheless these are always low level electives. Even with most of the online classes, students still have the option to go to the classroom and watch live. |
| Texas and Florida peeps - This is about UGA. |
The stats of their admitted profile isn’t skewed, it’s the best data we have right now. You can’t rely on how deferrals were handled last year since this year saw an application increase. |
Yea, you have posted this before but Florida has some kids who do their entire first year online and a large amount of certain majors, such as business, are online classes. And kids can go to class in theory, but there actually isn’t enough room for all the kids registered, but it’s ok because no one goes. Not the college experience I want for my kids, but again, you do you. |

Ok- but your child’s campus experience has nothing to do with how well regarded the academics are at UF.
MIT is a hideous campus but so what? It’s MIT. UGA is an amazing school- it’s getting stronger and stronger by the year. It’s slightly below UF and UT. They are all fantastic- my kid got into all 3 and he has a tough choice! |
Campus experience is why so many kids are heading to southern flagships. UGA’s campus experience and Athens beats UF hands down. |
UT for the win. With those solid options, I would scratch UF off the list. |
Remember these are recalculated GPAs by the institution. UGA only gives applicants extra weight for AP and IB classes where UF gives extra weight for honors and dual enrollment classes in addition to AP and IB. This inflates the UF average GPA significantly. |
" UGA’s campus experience and Athens beats UF hands down." LOL |
