It feels like the year of the deferral.

That’s the problem with anecdotes. Some kids prefer UGA over Michigan, UVA, UNC.

doubtful but you never know.

Doubtful 5-10 years ago but not now.
still doubtful. Even in the SEC it's Vanderbilt, UF and then everybody else.
Put down the bowl. Texas is stronger than Florida in every respect. Florida and UGA are peers.

My son was admitted to both UT Austin and UF and I don't share your opinion that one is remarkably stronger than the other and I've done a ton of research. Both are great schools hence why they are both considered "Public Ivies". My son is struggling with his decision for sure. To your point about UGA and UF. I will just say that UF received over 90,000 applications this admissions cycle. UGA received 47,850 (just almost half of UF and UT Austin). UF admissions rate will fall somewhere around 13% this cycle. Average ACT is really high along with the average GPA being well over 4.0. UGA will probably be around 30-33%. UGA's officially reported average overall GPA this cycle was 3.81, average ACT 29 and SAT 1285. I'm not saying that UGA is not a good school because I think it is a really good school overall. UF is just incredibly selective these days and is a "public ivie" and ranked 7th among public universities by US News for a reason.

Remember these are recalculated GPAs by the institution. UGA only gives applicants extra weight for AP and IB classes where UF gives extra weight for honors and dual enrollment classes in addition to AP and IB. This inflates the UF average GPA significantly.

UF received almost twice the number of applicants UGA did this cycle. The acceptance rate at UF is much lower. Shocker - scores and grades of admitted are higher at UF. Why is this hard. UGA is a good school, so why make this about UF. The OP was asking about a deferral at UGa. Get over it.

MIT is a hideous campus but so what? It’s MIT.

UGA is an amazing school- it’s getting stronger and stronger by the year. It’s slightly below UF and UT. They are all fantastic- my kid got into all 3 and he has a tough choice!

UT for the win. With those solid options, I would scratch UF off the list.

My son was also accepted to UT-Austin and UF and is struggling with his decision. What is it about UT-Austin that you favor over UF? UT is quite a bit more for tuition OOS. So, there is that consideration. Thanks.

OMG! Look at the subject of this message. This is about Georgia. Take the UT-UF discussion somewhere else. So rude!

Campus experience is why so many kids are heading to southern flagships. UGA’s campus experience and Athens beats UF hands down.

+1 Definitely!! Has more of a community feel.

The OOS kids matriculating to UF at this point are the ones actively seeking a DeSanitized education. Hard pass.

Either you’re a UF booster or you’ve never been to Athens. No rational person would say Gainesville is better than Athens.

I f grew uo in Florida. My dad went to UF. It's an excellent school! But Gainesville doesn't compare atmosphere- wise to UGA and Athens!

Feels like you are the one getting defensive and making this about UF? Maybe you should get over it?

I’m just pointing out that the academic profiles of admitted students at the two schools are closer than they appear given that UF inflates their admitted student GPA by giving weight to everything other than general ed coursework. Both great schools, but don’t get seduced by manipulated statistics.
