I know a number of high stats kids who are holding onto a UGA admit as a back-up. There is log jam of deferrals--most of these kids are deferred from their top state school choice of Michigan, UVA, UNC and also have top20 RD applications pending. If some of these spots open up they'll release UGA. It feels like the year of the deferral. :(
That’s the problem with anecdotes. Some kids prefer UGA over Michigan, UVA, UNC.
doubtful but you never know.
Doubtful 5-10 years ago but not now.
still doubtful. Even in the SEC it's Vanderbilt, UF and then everybody else.
Put down the bowl. Texas is stronger than Florida in every respect. Florida and UGA are peers.
My son was admitted to both UT Austin and UF and I don't share your opinion that one is remarkably stronger than the other and I've done a ton of research. Both are great schools hence why they are both considered "Public Ivies". My son is struggling with his decision for sure. To your point about UGA and UF. I will just say that UF received over 90,000 applications this admissions cycle. UGA received 47,850 (just almost half of UF and UT Austin). UF admissions rate will fall somewhere around 13% this cycle. Average ACT is really high along with the average GPA being well over 4.0. UGA will probably be around 30-33%. UGA's officially reported average overall GPA this cycle was 3.81, average ACT 29 and SAT 1285. I'm not saying that UGA is not a good school because I think it is a really good school overall. UF is just incredibly selective these days and is a "public ivie" and ranked 7th among public universities by US News for a reason.
The average admitted stats for UGA are much higher. https://www.admissions.uga.edu/blog/2025-uga-overall-ea-admissions/
That's very skewed. UGA notoriously defers a lot of applicants in early action and then accepts a lot of those deferred applicants in regular pool when a lot of the admitted "higher stats" kids in early action go elsewhere. Don't forget their early action decision is in early December which is very early in the process for these kids. Need to look at the entire pool to get a glimpse of where things will fall ultimately.
The stats of their admitted profile isn’t skewed, it’s the best data we have right now. You can’t rely on how deferrals were handled last year since this year saw an application increase.
