A lot of my coworkers are taking the fork offer

OP, I don’t believe you. Did Musk ask you to write this?

Really? After the insulting FAQ email that dropped last night, there is no way I would leave. So offensive “low productivity”?! GTFOH

This is me. I was planning on resigning in March anyway. Will they pay me the full 8 months? Doubtful. But then I’m no worse off. If they do then it’s a bonus.

This is exactly the scenario under which someone should accept the offer. You know you're leaving, either due to retirement or another offer, so you can sweeten the pot and leave. I listened to a webinar yesterday, and the attorney said that even in cases of retirement (where the employee was planning on retiring), it aycan often be more beneficial to stick around because you may be able to get a "better" offer via VERA or VSIP.

How many people posted on this site that if they had to RTO, they were quitting? Why wouldn’t these people take the offer if they were planning on quitting instead of going back anyway?

And we are already swamped. But I question the prevailing sentiment that “barely anyone will take this.” At least in my division, that is not true.
What type of work does your office do? (Scientists, attorneys, healthcare, HR, acquisition, etc?)

Sorry, Amanda!

Not many people said they were quitting. They said it would suck and was a waste of resources.

After that email I now believe that they are reading DCUM.

It is a trap, don’t fall for it.

never underestimate the power of federal workers' spite, amanda!

recall that Elon said that workers could stay home during the pandemic, and then fired them for staying home? Remember that AMANDA??

I didn’t think anyone at my job would take it. A few are. They have extenuating circumstances that would make RTO difficult and a couple are eligible for retirement anyway.

You'll never get paid for this deal, either.

We are resilient AF.

Honestly, the biggest takeaway I hope people get from this is that federal employees are gritty and committed—despite the narrative. We do a lot with a little, put up with enormous loads of BS, and handle ourselves pretty well.
