As far as night travel is concerned, am I safer traveling to/from Baltimore or Dulles?

Just fly bigger planes. 737/A320 type planes. They can't land on 33.

Same

Same. I just had to rebook a flight for tomorrow and dca had cheaper and better flights but I’m going to Bwi.

There are still helicopters all over the place.

At least, it's likely there will be again.

Significantly less of an issue on Runway 1. But I would love it if demand drops for DCA. Pricing will too.

Lot of aviation risk analysts posting here all of a sudden. Impressive.

Have you ever driven on the Woodrow Wilson bridge when a helicopter and plane are BOTH flying over you. I have dozens of times.

It's alarming. Don't tell me that landing a 737 isn't less risky when there ISN'T another aircraft below you.

If you want actual assessment based on reasonable actual numbers, here you go for a trip you have to fly on:

1. Drive the shortest distance necessary- this is by far the biggest thing you can do on your trip to lower your risk
2. Fly nonstop- adding a takeoff and landing to your trip adds another cycle of the riskiest parts of flying
......
48. Prefer Dulles and BWI over DCA, all of the above being otherwise equal.

Of course not- I support removing non-emergency copter flights within the last few miles of the DCA flight paths. But the relative risk is still not comparable.

That’s true in the aggregate, but National is a much riskier airport than average due to the short runways and crowded airspace. FWIW, I don’t believe driving to Dulles instead creates any meaningful incremental risk.

You haven't driven on 295 lately.

Yep. We live about the same distance from both and it’s Dulles only from here on out.

and you believe this? Are you college educated?

Are you implying runway 33 is less safe than other runways at National Airport?

And if you take metro to get there, you will have significantly lowered your overall risk from the trip.

Agreed.
