As far as night travel is concerned, am I safer traveling to/from Baltimore or Dulles?

Metro to Dulles or MARC to BWI. BWI is easier to deal with but Dulles has more flights and more destinations. Both are out in deep suburbia.

Based on what Trump has said it’s basically not safe to fly because the best workers weren’t hired. So if you’re worried then drive.

You’re better off just staying home.

That’s true in the aggregate, but National is a much riskier airport than average due to the short runways and crowded airspace. FWIW, I don’t believe driving to Dulles instead creates any meaningful incremental risk.

I personally am not going to do any more night flights into DCA until they stop all the helicopter activity. It seems like the planes can navigate the area just fine even though it’s a tricky approach. When you add a bunch of helicopters to the mix it’s a recipe for disaster. I don’t love the drive or long metro to Dulles though and most places I go, American has the better options.

Baltimore County police have been hobbled with a “no chase” policy, even for violent carjackings.

Plus they now have so many other restrictions, they won’t help you and they don’t discourage crime anymore. Baltimore is dangerous gang territory.

Dulles is definitely the much safer option.

After this, and hearing about the various other close calls, IAD or BWI will be the better choice for me.

It won't be long before Trump says something about the quality of our country's roads.

LaGuardia has a short runway too, yes?

Yes, two short ones that intersect.

And midway.

Done with Reagan. It's Dulles or nothing now.

Please, I implore you, pull the actual risk calculations per mile of driving and per mile of flying. Basically:

0.54 deaths per 100 million miles driven (2022)

0.01 deaths per 100 million miles flown (that was 2009, the last year with a fatal commercial US airline crash)

https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/home-and-community/safety-topics/deaths-by-transportation-mode/

So do whatever you want, but one of those is 54 times than the other, relatively speaking. Seems like a pretty easy decision to me. Even if you think DCA is 5 times riskier than any other airport, still 10 times safer than driving.

PP apparently has never looked at a map of the state of Maryland.

BWI is not in Baltimore city. The airport is not dangerous.
