You have a successful college student and you're distraught because his political views have changed? You're like my parents who called me a dirty communist when I went to college and became less conservative.

I'm not a MAGA but DEI is a serious problem and some of my friends work for places that have openly said they won't promote white men past a certain level.

Hey, I have a niece who has a giant pink satin banner Women for Trump on her bedroom wall at home. 2nd year of college. She was planning to be a social studies teacher but changed to social work. But her mom watches One America News. Her dad doesn't really think about politics (he does not actually have any political ideology) and all the farmers (like him) around are pro-Trump (because during his first term Trump TRIPLED the direct aid to farmers when he imposed the China tariffs). He voted for Trump because that's what everyone where he lives does (an area that had a conservative Dem rep for something like 30 years, who was voted out of office in 2016 and became solidly red).

OP have you given any thought to his perspective? As the parent of two white males I can see exactly why he’s pissed off about DEI and wokeness.

My oldest is a junior in high school and has received hundreds of emails from college and fully 1/3 of them are inviting him to receptions for diverse candidates…how the F is he supposed to interpret that?

Same son attends a private school with good diversity…he’s one of the top students. Last year he applied for a student position in the math department and got rejected because “while you are highly qualified, our department only considers diverse candidates.” All 4 of the candidates selected were Chinese. How the F is he supposed to interpret that?

no advice, op but, I would be very disappointed. I would ask him to not discuss politics when around you and unfortunately I wouldn't want to be around him much.. Considering he has zero sympathy for women in this country and how are rights have been eroded

Are you this a black and white thinker? No, we want all people to succeed, not just white men. But, we aren't against white men. How many women presidents have we had? How many POC presidents? ONE! Cry me a river.

It's entirely reasonable to expect a child to develop their own identity and values over time. You have influence, but so too does the rest of the world he encounters. Instead of being distressed that he sees things differently, rejoice that he is becoming an independent thinker instead of an extension or appendage to you. Presumably he has been and is continuing to learn and apply critical thinking skills. He may even turn out to be open-minded and tolerant, understanding that people of good will can disagree while remaioning civil and maybe even cooperative on points of agreement, while remaining a moral person guided by his own ethical guidelines.

As a young man, his worldview is likely still evolving, as it should as he gains experience in the world and is exposed to different perspectives.
