Metropolitan DC Local Politics

I was a Republican in MoCo during the Connie Morella rep days.
I started voting Democrat around the Clinton era. The whole Contract with America b.s. was what drove me away from being a Republican. Newt Gingrich and pals. Ugh. I saw some of those guys up close at Congressional hearings. I am not registered to a party but mostly vote Democrat. I still vote in Republican primaries when the leading candidate is horrible (e.g. Kasich instead of Trump in 2016, Haley instead of Trump in 2024). |
| Mission in the Navy Yard |
No one is even a citizen around there. |

You assume everyone around you is blue, but that’s not always true. I lived in Bethesda. My neighbors all assumed I shared their progressive values. Quietly, I had other preferences.

| I’m in Takoma Park. At this point, it has moderated enough and become more expensive so that it is not that much different than the rest of the DMV, except maybe McLean and Old Town. |
This exists in Takoma Park too |
| Friends in Chevy Chase are closeted Republicans. They know to hide. |
| Just about every suburban neighborhood. |
| Rehoboth, Bethany, Dewey Beach, |
Boat owners seem largely Republican |
They are more common and open about their beliefs as you get farther away from DC. I feel like I get a glimpse of their world when I am traveling to red or even purple areas. Also there seems to be a lot of Trumpy contractors. Renovate something on your house? |
Ashburn is royal blue. |
| Immigrants can be conservative. They may not support T but the align to those on the right. |
Almost everyone on our old CC block was a Republican. We moved streets and I’m assuming it’s a blue block but red blocks exist! |
| Rural areas in Western Prince William county. There are lots of Trump signs and you rarely see Biden signs. |
