Where can I interact with Republicans "in the wild"?

Trump Republican who lives in Takoma Park here! My DH and I met working on the Hill and he is one too. We truly are everywhere but usually have our horns covered.

At the gym.

MAGA does not equal Republican.

I live in Takoma Park, and I have only ever lived in blue states or Europe.
The most conservative members of my family are now never-Trump/Lincoln Project type Republicans, all the rest are Democrats. I have two Republican friends here and they both hate Trump.

I'm sure I could crash a Young Republicans meetup, but I'm not looking for a strictly political setting. I want to just see how people who think way differently from me live their lives as normal people and understand why they think the way they do. I'm not religious so it's not like I'm going to sit in an evangelical church just for this purpose. And I'm not trying to do so as some weird social experiment and write a thinkpiece about it. I just want to meet people and understand them. Where would I go that is most likely to have Trump/new right/populist conservatives just existing in their own lives? Other than stereotypical things like a gun club. Maybe some kind of small town event far enough outside the DC suburbs?

Yes have wondered this too. Truth is you don't have to go out too far away. Republicans are in MoCo. Try a nearby bar. UMD College Park has them too. There was a very large group outside Walter Reed Wisconsin Avenue Rockville in the Fall of 2020 when a president was hospitalized.

And Pukegressive doesn't equal Democrat either.

This is the correct answer. OP unless you never leave TKP, you interact with republicans on a daily basis.

Go to a fiber in a rural area, wear a Maga hat.

Here’s the correct response.

OP, I’m not sure what you’re expecting. Republicans, even Trump supporting ones, live like you and they probably live all around you. They just aren’t talking politics as they go about their lives.

There are a lot of maga boat owners on the Chesapeake. Trump and let’s go Brandon flags everywhere.

Or go to a gun range

You may not be in as much of a liberal bubble as you think, people are just too polite to broadcast political differences in these settings.

Sean Spicer's kid was on my son's baseball team for two years. Decent dude who helped out a lot at practice and games.

Then I’m spending my day at various youth sports.

My (shelter) dogs are driving me nuts because I worked too late this week and the weather was bad, so I am hoping I can take them to the dog park today while it’s sunny.

We will get take out (probably Indian) and watch a documentary on Netflix tonight (this is why the dog park is super critical).

Tomorrow, we’ll go to our Episcopal church, and brunch. My son wants to go thrifting, and then we have symphony tickets.

So come on out to Alexandria, and join the fun!

But when in your day will you go scream at some poor girl who is trying to buy plan B at CVS, hold your nose at the gentleman in front of you at the gas station buying beer, or complain about the hybrid car slowing down your gas guzzler because global warming is a hoax?

they're just too ashamed of their choices to speak about it openly.

At my kid's youth orchestra rehearsal last year in Montgomery County, I chatted with a nice gentleman from that side of the aisle. Caveat - he didn't like Trump, but he supported a lot of his policies. He didn't explicitly tell me he would vote for Trump. I think he's part of a large swathe of conservatives who feel allegiance to their own political side, yet are terribly disappointed by their nominee.

There are conservatives, and Republicans, in the DC area, OP. But since they know they're in the minority, they will wait to suss out whether you're open-minded before telling you. I'm a great listener, and a foreigner to boot. People love to open up to me.
