No one’s forcing you to live in NoVa, and no one’s forcing you to send you kid OOS. Own your decisions, quit your whining.

I guess the concept of state schools is lost on you.

DP- you could have considered Radford

Quite the contrary, I think it’s lost on you. You think your property taxes entitle your kid to a spot at UVA?

UVA is the most expensive college in the country for both in and OOS. Particularly for engineering OOS it the same $85k COA as a top private.

My 2024 Nova Virginia kid was waitlisted. Very strong stats.

Only kid who got in to UVA went to an Ivy. For out of state students, it makes zero sense to pay this kind of tuition when you're looking at good offers from other private colleges.

Move to Charlottesville 50% admit rate and 40% for the county

Never said anything about being entitled. Are you always so dishonest in your disagreements are you just here to be an a-hole? Because you just sound like an a-hole. Which is sadly what I’ve come to expect from UVA sycophants.

Also, expect the allure to go down accordingly.

This is true. UVA is regarded as having a certain cachet and experience that no other public offers. It’s why we were willing to write the OOS check.

I understand your sentiment about taxes. And if Virginia did not offer other excellent options, I would agree. But if you change the mix of students, the national perception of the school will change. My son chose UVA, a perfect fit for what he was looking for, over several prestigious privates. I wouldn’t have agreed to that for any other public school.

My very high stats student from MD was WL - so don't be so sure OOS has lower standards.

DP. Serious question: what on earth are you talking about?

More like 40k more. One of the two most expensive oos schools in the country. Want more Virginians? Pay for it. Vote for it. Or quit whining. oos students are funding your school...

It won’t make a difference. UVA should be sufficiently large enough to handle virtually all of the very top students in the state. It isn’t and therein lies the problem.

Virginia can try to be more like Michigan but that won’t be a solution; Virginia will end up more like Wisconsin if it goes that route — a fine school, but not a school oos students would be willing to pay private school tuition for.

You’re clearly a literal person so online conversation is hard for you. “Similar stats” and “state school” carry weight here. But I suspect you’re not an adult so you don’t understand why parents would feel that residents earning their way in with the same stats as OOS kids is not entitlement.

Ok, if you say so. Stay livid about all that airfare UVA is making you pay for.

Between UVA, W&M and VT Virginia has plenty of seats available for in-state schools at top-ranked public schools. Add in JMU and VCU along with others and there are a lot of solid options. People need to quit whining!
