3.8/35 is too low for Rice, Vandy and Williams from our Big3. NU basically is too. the rest are ok.

ND is EA or RD only. Def put it on the RD list. I don’t find that they love private school kids. Unless your kid is at a Catholic HS (and only TT Catholic private is Regis)

We have kids at our private get into all those schools w 3.8. But we have massive grade deflation. 3.8 is very good at some schools. Would only knock HYPSM out of contention, unless hooked.

One check could be to consider which ones don't have ED2. No ED2 at Rice, Williams, Northwestern, Notre Dame. So, if they really want to be considered at those, then you have to pick an ED from that set. Then pick your ED2 from the schools that offer it.

I wonder if he should just pick the one he loves the most and go for it for ed1 and ed2 if needed. The rest he can apply RD. I think he will get into at least one RD if not more. And hopefully he loves his safety too.

Agree.

Ours got into Yale, Dartmouth, Williams, Duke, Amherst, Middlebury, Swarthmore, Pomona, Northwestern, UChicago, WashU, etc.

Rice has ED2 now.

Agree with PP.
3.8 works at Vandy and Rice, etc. also works at Duke.
But not HYPSM.
Northwestern can be weird.

Dream school = “This school is perfect. It’s the only place for me. Every other school pales in comparison.”

First choice = “Of the various schools I’m considering, this school seems like the best fit, and I’m comfortable committing to it if I get in ED. If I don’t get in, there are a number of other schools where I could be happy.”

Pick a fav and do ED. Pick a second fav that has ED2, then just everything else RD.

this is slicing things pretty thin. first choice is often a dream. take your shot, why not. hopefully nobody has unrealistic views of their chances

eh. I think if you have a short list of choices you'd be thrilled to attend, thinking about ED makes sense. Chicago will give you a lift via ED. Williams won't. etc

Rice has added ED2 for next cycle.

I think these would be a waste of an ED. I’d look at the others, particularly ND and Davidson.

ED is not necessary for Davidson for a top private. Don't even need to be in top 20 percent of class at ours, and they take a good number of kids every year.
