I am 45 and my shape has changed because I gained weight.
My weight started creeping up 10lbs over the last 4 years. Most of it is diet- particularly drinking. I have also been working out more than ever and weight training so it’s hard to tell how accurate the scale is because muscle is more visible than in my 30s. For me the weight settled in hips, stomach and upper thighs so I think that’s why it’s easy to see a shape change. I know now I need to watch calories better. I stopped drinking this year and I try to eat a lot of protein. But it’s slow glowing. I’ve lost 1lb since December. And 3lbs since a year ago. |
An A line on a short person with a butt looks so matronly and absolutely awful. I never could wear A line dresses without looking stupid, at any weight. I do best with more form fitting dresses, and hip dips and form fitting is a no. |
Yes, your body will start to recomp itself. You’ll start to lose mucsle mass and add body-fat. Even when the number remains nearly the same on the scale you’ll look less fit and clothes will fit differently. Ideally you should start weight training with the goal of adding muscle as you age. Resistance training benefits bone and muscle mass which provide better mobility and protection against injury during falls, etc. The great side benefit is that you recomp your body back in the other direction and your clothes fit better and you look better as well. |
You don’t understand responding to a post saying women over 40 categorically can’t wear bikinis because they have bad skin because you think people with okay skin should just silently enjoy it. Okay? That’s weird. I think that’s on you. Maybe don’t make up weird rules and get offended when others don’t accept them. |
But we cannot see you. You can post whatever you want and be 1000 pounds. (I didn’t post the post you were offended by on rules for bikinis. But I’m always puzzled when people post assuring us all that they are hot. Uh, ok?) |
I did not, but it is changing in my 50s. Weight is coming on easier, my stomach is not as tight as before, and there is some arm flab.
I now exercise 30 minutes to an hour daily, and my body is bouncing back to okay shape. I am not overweight, maybe 8 lbs more than I would like (bcs I am insane) but most would say I am average weight for my height. 124 for 5'4". |
Uh, okay? I don’t understand telling all women over 40 that they are categorically not hot. There are clearly exceptions and some of us know if we may be one in at least some regards. I have terrible hair. My eyes are super wrinkly. But yeah, my skin is taut. Probably genetics in part. The whole point is that it’s certainly not impossible or unlikely. |
Same here. I have noticed a difference now that I am 50, and post menopausal. I am your height but a little bit heavier. However, I weight-lift more in the winter due to the weather, and balance it out with cardio (running and soccer) in the summer. I will see if I am still the same physique as my old self (20s) by the end of the summer. I usually am, but I am getting old now! |
