I am 43 and while my weight has remained steady, my pants have been feeling really tight recently and I feel like I look wider all of a sudden. I am 5’6 and 148 lbs. and have been this weight since having my last child 6 years ago. I don’t feel bloated but maybe I am (not gassy though). Is this just what happens in perimenopause?
Yes, your body will start to recomp itself. You’ll start to lose mucsle mass and add body-fat. Even when the number remains nearly the same on the scale you’ll look less fit and clothes will fit differently. Ideally you should start weight training with the goal of adding muscle as you age. Resistance training benefits bone and muscle mass which provide better mobility and protection against injury during falls, etc. The great side benefit is that you recomp your body back in the other direction and your clothes fit better and you look better as well.
