My goodness. What an incredible post. DCUM should have some sort of sticky thread for amazing contributions like this. I’ll have to bookmark this for posterity. If I could only have a printout of the post signed by the precious individual who authored it, I’d die a happy DCUMer. Never should anyone question why I spend so many hours a week on this site with quality content like this. |
+1 Some of us are currently private parents applying to selective publics and privates. We wouldn't choose our neighborhood school and have to wait for acceptance from both before we have anything to decide. |
Some of us don't know parents of kids in the selective schools - public or private. |
+1 |
I do all the above. We applied selective public, paid deposit on current private, applied for additional 2 privates. My child got into one private, WL at the other, and I don’t have the decision on the selective public. Child has a ranking and wants the WL school first, followed by the public, then the other 2 privates where child is “occupying a space”. We will absolutely free these spaces if child gets one of the other 2 options. Truth is, we are only looking out for our kid, not yours. We follow the contract rules. Deal with it! |
+1 It sounds like they got in to places your child did not like Sidwell, GDS, Maret and others. |
+1 I think most people are considering private versus magnet and you can't do shadow days for a magnet until you are admitted so you don't even know if it's a possibility. Also staff, curriculums, student bodies change from year to year at private or public so it's worth it to get the latest information. What's it to you anyway? Your child did not get into a magnet right? |
THIS. |
Not everyone knows people with kids in the school. Or perhaps they have concerns they’d rather not express or share with those who know them personally. |
Acc to OP, you are good. It’s only the ignorant, lazy public school parents who don’t value education as much as you do who need to make way for you and all the other private school parents. |
If I'd already decided I wouldn't have been able to consider this late breaking evidence of how stupid some private school parents are. |
|
I think for some people, it is a question of finances, OP. They may think for example that if their kid gets into the coveted Sidwell or the likes, they may be able to shame grandma into paying when they know they cannot afford it themselves. Or, they may be hoping for a big raise or bonus to help pay.
Others here have raised other good points. |
| This is the dumbest thread ever. People can do whatever they want within the rules. |
| OP, do you believe every thread on this DCUM forum has to appeal to every possible poster? Or only to you specifically? I'm trying to make sense of your post, grievances, and doubling-down response. You must not have read any replies that didn't already fit with your opinion. It's very valid to be deciding now. |
No, because PP considered a public option which is an indication that they aren’t really committed to educational quality compared to OP who made a point to let us know they are in a W school and didn’t consider it. |
