Help me draft an email admitting a horrible mistake

Anonymous
So the conference is tomorrow and Wednesday? He emailed you at 4pm their time that they didn't have him registered so today must not have been day 1 unless he missed 75% of the day traveling. Just beg and pay full price to get into whatever day you can.

“Boss— I am looking into what happened, and getting you into the conference, if you still plan to attend. Apologies for the inconvenience. You may be able to register onsite, and then I will make sure we don’t pay for a duplicate registration .”

I just called the org and they said I can't register him retroactively and he'd have to register in person when he gets there if they're not sold out but she said they are sold out.

Beg. Explain that he is there, with a credit card.

See if you can get some sympathy. Tell the org that it was your mistake and that he has traveled to the location. Surely someone is a no show!

Exactly. Just say he travelled all the way from the states and it looks like there was some kind of error. Could have been theirs or yours since you don’t remember?

Not the passive “it looks like”, tell them you made a huge huge huge mistake and beg and plead to the higher ups.

Also, I've delt with Euros on a conference, unfortunately, many are not as detail oriented as Americans, so good luck with that.

What a dumb thing to say.

I think you uncovered a troll. And if he's waiting for an answer from her, she wouldn't be coming back here constantly to post. So definitely a troll.

No, it's today (Monday) and tomorrow. He traveled there last week for another conference (which I did manage to register him for).

I'm not a troll. I just don't want to offer to pay for something full price when he may only get 50% of it, and I can't tell if he's telling me so I'll be aware I made a mistake and be more careful or telling me so I can fix it. He very well may have talked his way in and paid at the door - it's not clear to me.

it's been 40 minutes. Please tell me that you have responded to him. Jesus. call him. stop with the email immediately. Don't make any more assumptions.

Upon reviewing our records, it appears that there was indeed an error in registering you for the conference. It seems there was a misunderstanding on my part, possibly due to the simultaneous scheduling of two conferences in the same city.

I understand the importance of these events for your professional development, and I deeply regret any inconvenience this has caused you. I am taking immediate steps to rectify the situation by contacting the conference organizers and arranging for your registration.

Please rest assured that I will implement better systems to ensure such mistakes do not happen again in the future. If there is anything else I can do to assist you with this matter, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Once again, I apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this may have caused, and I appreciate your understanding.

Dang girl thats awesome you must have to BS a lot for your job.

Send him a quick email saying you are looking into it and see if you can get him registered asap.

THEN fall on your sword if they can’t, with the bottom line up front, but taking responsibility for the error. If they can, lead with that and gloss over the mistake with some passive language.

We've emailed several times. I called the org before I responded to him at all.

But you were willing to pay full price knowing he wouldn't arrive until 4pm anywaysy? If he wants to attend, you pay whatever gets him in. You really do seem incompetent.

Way too long. This is for next week.

For now:

I confirmed it was my mistake, you are not registered. I’ve been on the phone with the organizers and am working to rectify. I’ll be back to you ASAP with an update. Very sorry for the confusion.
