Lyon Village Giant - Bad times ahead

You’re as clueless as anything can be. Whole Foods is the anchor for that neighborhood and others around it.

Do you even know where the Giant was??? Whole Foods is Clarendon Court House. Giant was Lyon Village almost Cherrydale.

The CVS & their pharmacy is the main stop there and Giant was nice but there are other grocery stores that were better. Starbucks and the Italian Store bring in a lot of business, and the Big Wheel Bikes is busy spring through fall.

Yeah but when squatters take over the empty storefront, it will drive away everyone.

This isn’t the big deal you want it to be. If you had ever actually been to that store you would know that.

So it was already full of squatters?

It’s perfect for Aldi or Lidl. They are barebones inside and usually occupy derelict store fronts. It’s a step up from a warehouse. They definitely fill a need for lower cost staples, and would complement whole paycheck and mildly undercut Trader Joe’s esp with its annoying garage (but TJ really has a lock for the hard partying 20 year olds in surrounding apartments).

A girl can dream.

A mini Target?

Why is it a surprise given the number of scuzzy apartments still in that area?

Not everyone can afford better. Screw off.

You simply don't know what you are talking about.

Why do you think there will be squatters? I’m confused.

From most of LV, it’s an easy walk to WF or TJ. The crappy Giant is farther away, down the hill, and across a not-so-pedestrian-friendly road.

You clearly are not familiar with the area. Go troll somewhere else.

Maybe it’s the hobos in clown make up with the handkerchief on a stick bags singing jaunty accordion tunes. They get pretty raucous doing the Hokey Pokey

It might be considered “An Anchor” by People Who Aren’t Familiar With The Area, but it’s truly not what draws 90% of the people to the center.

Go sit in the parking lot one day if you don’t believe me. The CVS and Starbucks each get 2x the traffic - easily, probably more. Right off the bat you can even see where it’s difficult to find a parking spot. The ones in front of Giant are often empty.

A small, decent market would do very well there.

Ok? The giant is closed now so yeah 2x the traffic.

During the day a LOT of retirees shopped there.
landlord will need to cover the lost rent so expect existing tenants to get the screws

It was at least 2x the traffic back when it was open. I’m in the shopping center very often, even during the day. The Giant was never as bustling as much the other shops. It’s where you go park when the other side is full.

I prefered shopping at that Giant rather than at the Cherrydale Safeway. Giant tend to be the bellwether about the neighborhood. They don't stick around depressed areas like Safeway does. (We already know from other threads that this area has other problems like the airplane noises )
