What “inner circle”? Is it like eyes wide shut? There’s a 50% chance your DC will be coached next season by a Brave coach and practicing at Woodson or Robinson. I also suspect a lot of Union players looking for new clubs next season. Maybe McLean rl as most will not make another ecnl club.

Nah Brave was garbage. Union slightly better. Brave games are a miserable experience watching them get dominated. Brave was going to lose ECNL, so Union in driver seat.

McLean had a partnership with Arlington before Arlington had ECNL.

The merger was done for the boys side. The Union girls side could get stronger if ID sessions are announced and top players don’t leave but that’s a big if. Union slow-rolling ID sessions like there are no other competitive clubs around.

ECNL forced merger on boys side so they didn't have to kill Brave. Mclean didnt have a choice.
Clubs did girls side on their own though. All the rest like the lack of coaching slate, ID sessions is because ECNL forced this with very little time before March 1. But this venture will fail on the boys side because they wont retain the best coaches.

And the coaches are leaving because? The Club didn’t ask their opinion? So if ECNL was forcing it on McLean what did the coaches want the Club to leave ECNL? Go where? MLS Next? When currently only one of the boys age groups has a winning record. Not going to happen.
And if ECNL was threatening pulling the girls they wanted them shafted worse then they are now?
They may be good coaches but they sound pretty petty. Stick around prove you can take a partnership with Brave and make winning teams. You didn’t prove it with SYC.

If McLean and Arlington merged, they would win Nationals every single year. Each club alone are too strong. Combined any club they play against would be a joke. It's like asking Google and Apple to merge.

Dude, the coaches are looking around right now for one reason: job security. When two clubs merge like this, and there are half as many ECNL teams between the two clubs, some coaches from both clubs are bound to lose their job. Nobody wants the coaching roster finalized more than the coaches.

The merger is going to expand the player pool, that is a good thing. I think most of you are focus on the impacts of the current teams which is natural since you have skin in the game with current players. Long run, this is a good move. Short term, there will be chaos. I have a player on Brave and we rewatched the Brave vs Union game. Based on my observation as a fan of the game, I can see a blended union and brave team being much stronger next year. That is if the team is built off of Best 20 on the roster and not favorite 20.

Or...until the next shiny toy comes around and they decide to merge with them!

It will be interesting to see how big rosters will be for FVU. McLean favors very large rosters. Over 30 in the oldest age group, around 24 for U15-17.

As far as players go long term, Mclean benefits from its name covering a larger area. Mclean is much smaller than a place like Arlington or Alexandria.

There is very little to be gained by actually going through with a merger with this dying club at the high cost of losing existing players and coaches. Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?

By going forward with the merger, McLean risks alienating all of its existing coaches - and any current players who don’t want to lose their coach. If there are some BRAVE coaches that Mclean likes (yeah, uh…) they will all be available soon.

Kill the merger, post the coaching lineup, and ID session dates ASAP or risk losing current coaches and talent.

Are there any real businesspeople looking at this for McLean?

What 3 people don’t think this was forced? Like Brave was, like Union was before.

If Only! with ID sessions already taking place for GA, and ECNL happening next week, when are we even going to see a coaching slate? have they locked in coaches?
