What am I missing about White Lotus?

I am struggling with the pace. But willing to give it more time.

I love shows on MAX particularly watching Righteous Gemstones. While the potty humor gets to me sometimes the reality of what is going on in the US and this show is just fabulous.

Funny, to me she wasn't that unlikeable: annoying and immature, sure, and her poaching her friends' boyfriends was not cool, but small in comparison to other happenings. Paula was the undercover villain of the season, much more so than douchy dh who actually was right the whole time about Armand's pettiness!

It’s a slow-paced social satire that asks you to study the human behavior of wealthy people like you might study gorillas or something. I think you’re either fascinated by what Mike White is going for here or you’re not.

It's fair to ask if you should stick with it - but probably not after saying you think it's bad, childish, boring, and only for Gen Z. You're just insulting everyone who likes the show while also waiting for us all to say, "you're so much smarter than we are, you should just go read some shakespeare instead of watching this show we all love because we are mush-brained idiots."

If you don't like a show you don't like a show. I gave up on Shogun halfway through the first ep because I got so disturbed by the torture scene. I know - it's a great show! Andor, too, I just can't get into. But I'm not going to come on here and insult everyone who likes it while demanding they tell me if I should keep going with this beloved property that I can certainly see that a lot of people enjoy a lot more than I do.

It's ok if something is not for you. It doesn't make you better or worse than the people who like it.

You are WAY too triggered. It’s okay to like entertaining garbage, but it’s silly to think that someone else pointing out that it’s garbage is a personal insult. I also gave up on Shogun, because it’s in the same vein as White Lotus - it’s a turd wrapped in shiny gift wrap. Same with Squid Game.

I actually find it disturbing that the general population seems to be losing its collective ability to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to art.

you are so elevated. so elevated. you should just program our lives, good brilliant one. tell us the wheat from the chaff - we're too stupid, too limited, to do it ourselves.

This. My husband said it's like a spring that gets compressed and then all the energy just erupts as the season goes on. In the beginning he is setting the stage and you are getting to know everyone (and gets hints about all their issues, which ALL eventually coming out.) It's so worth it. I dont watch much TV and there very few shows that my husband and I agree on and will actually rearrange our schedule to watch, and White Lotus is one.

S1 was not great. S2 is much better.

The other thing I'll say is that Mike White is a huge survivor fan, was on a seaon and almost won. I'm also a big fan of the old survivor. And he has said that a lot of White Lotus -- the endless hanging out, peoples character flaws coming back to destroy them, the water, etc -- is inspired by Survivor. Somehow knowing that makes it so so delightful for me.

I only liked the first season. I love social satire, but meh.

I travelled a lot in high end places when I was dating someone who made a lot of money. If you haven't done that, or worked in one of these places, it may not resonate as much with you.

Same for me! I think maybe you need to have either worked for or travelled in these rich luxury resort circles in order to get a laugh out of it

Good god you status obsessed strivers are so transparent. Yes, people who don’t “get” your cringy soap opera written by a gay man must be proles who’ve never been anywhere. lol

I am not rich and perfectly able to enjoy the show, as can many people. If only the ultra rich enjoyed it, the viewership would be much smaller. Odd brag...

What does the writer being gay have anything to do with anything? Wut

I am Gen X and have done zero drugs and love it. All 3 seasons. Such a great show.

Enlightened was a fabulous Mike White show that seemed to get very little talk.

Same reason SATC was rubbish. What does a childless gay bachelor know about about relationships, marriages, kids, and families? Absolutely nothing. The show is nothing but degenerate rubbish. But it’s always humorous to see the nitwit proles convince themselves they’re watching genius.
