What am I missing about White Lotus?

I recommend binge watching all seasons as soon as possible. The highlight this season is gay male incest. The highlight in season 2 was also…gay male incest.

There was no incest in season 2. I also have a hard time saying that the "highlight" of this season is the incident that you're referring to.

You want to get into the weeds to try to rationalize how depraved this dark comedy show is. The fact is season 2’s most memorable scene was a naked young boy (nephew) seen having anal sex with a bent over older man (uncle). And this season’s most memorable scene has been two drunken naked young male brothers engaging in incest sex.

That was not at all the most memorable scene of season 2. Honestly it says a lot about you that you think it was!

No other scene has received the same attention as the two brothers having incest sex. Jokes on late night, viral comments, etc.

I def identify with someone with a cognitive disorder plus awkward social skill.

This season there was just a “humorous” incest scene with two straight male boys performing a gay sex act on each other. Last season there was a “humorous” scene where a young bisexual nephew was having anal sex with his gay uncle shortly after he had sex with a young female co-star.

Really high brow TV. Totally not degenerate smut. You’re a prole if you don’t “get” this sort of TV and consume it week in and week out.

To be fair, they were both men and not boys. And the "nephew" was an adult as well.

I’m sorry that’s all you notice about this show.

You are misrepresenting this show. As has already been explained to you, no young boys were involved, and in season 2, the people having sex were not related to each other. None of them were related to each other. Have you even seen the show or have you just read evangelical propaganda about it?

+1. And it is not just tv shows. Someone recently tried to get me to read a book where two daughters get a dad drunk and have sex with him. Can you believe it? Nothing good can be in a book like that.

Don't you have a bible to go read?
Turn of the tv, and move on with your life.

Do you hear a “whoosh” over your head?

Do you know what book PP was referring to?

DP. Good grief, lady. Once again, there was no "young boy." That person was a fully grown male adult. And he wasn't even related to the older man. The uncle/nephew thing was a ruse. I find it simultaneously hilarious and pathetic that you watch these shows you claim to loathe. Obviously, you're just a very silly, titillated troll. Yawn.

You do realize he wasn’t actually his nephew right? Just like Julia Roberts wasn’t actually Richard Geres niece in pretty woman?

Thank you! That artful sodomy with an old man and drugged up and drunk young boy makes perfect sense now.

He was a prostitute. The scene was showing the young assistant girl that things were not as they seem and these people aren’t who they say they are.

Wow just wow. Who knew soft core sodomy featuring an old man and young boy prostitute on a mainstream television show could be so profound. Thank you for distilling this genius.

Sarcasm is such an immature way to argue/express your different opinion.

You’re suggesting the Bible has a good book for a prude to read? More lurid tales in there than white lotus.

I don’t think I loved it 2 episodes in but I liked it. By the end of the first season I loved it. I would say if you think it’s terrible from the jump, it probably wont grow on you.

While the show clearly has a ton of fans, I have heard from a handful of people that they don’t like it because the characters are unlikable or they don’t find it funny. I do find it very funny but there are also some dark, sad, uncomfortable moments. It’s not sitcom funny at all and I imagine people expecting that would be disappointed. Also, a lot of humor is derived from the characters being out of touch/jerks/selfish. If you don’t find humor in the unlikeability of the characters, I, again, would imagine you would not find this show funny.

DP.

A show can have the exact same themes and scenarios without all the gratuitous sex scenes and nudity. These types of scenes exist purely for shock value (or to satisfy some desire to produce soft core porn but pretend it’s something else).

It’s fine if you find it entertaining, but it’s pathetic to pretend it’s not trash.

Generally when I dislike a show, I make a point to avoid it completely. But not you!! You just keep coming back for more. Interesting.

DP means different poster.

And I didn’t say I don’t like it - I said it’s trash.

I also like Pop Tarts and Hot Pockets but they’re also trash. White Lotus is the equivalent of serving a Hot Pocket on beautiful china at a high end restaurant in a gorgeous location. You may enjoy the experience more than eating it off a paper plate in your kitchen, but at the end of the day it’s still a Hot Pocket.
