Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| Capital Weather Gang says odds are increasing, not decreasing |
Well, yeah. I get that there hasn't been much snow the last few years but historically, my zip code in Silver Spring gets an average of ~14 inches of snow per year. So if MCPS is going to use up 2 snow days for every 4 inch event, they either need to incorporate more snow days into the calendar or figure out how to use fewer snow days per event. Probably both. |
yep. its only mid-january and they have no more snow days. |
Parents have travel plans. Teachers have travel plans. They won’t do this. |
Agree |
They've identified which days they could use for makeups, but it'll take a while for them to decide which one(s) they will use. In 2022, they needed to make up three days due to January closures, but they didn't announce the plan until February 24th. The make up days used that year were in April and June. |
I see 6-12 inches! |
And the April day was originally a teachers' grading and reporting day, but was changed to an early release day. |
That part of the alert is not for this area. |
In Oakland? |
Shrug. Choices have consequences. |
| My kid just got home from middle school and said they announced over the PA system that they won't have school tomorrow. No idea how much faith to put behind that, but she said all her teachers said the same as well. |
That's the real issue, they cut too close to the bone on building in snow days. Having only 2 days built in is ridiculous when a relatively minor event burns through 2 days. Last winter's lack of snow was an aberration. Most winters we have at least one 3-4 inch snowfall. |
| What a mess of a week for the kids. |
which choice - like the one where they decided to close Wednesday? or the choice to make plans for spring break? So people aren't supposed to make plans on the off chance there are too many snow days? not going to happen. and if they are open a day at spring break - i doubt they do much actual work. What a waste. |
