Talk to your tutor or whoever is providing services to your kid. To the extent you have a need and your schedule allows, schedule as much as you can to spend the grant down to zero.

Don't try to buy an ipad unless your child has a documented disability that allows you to use it as a communication device or something similar. I'd be concerned that would come back to cause a problem.

Let’s be real: many, many legit tutors or classes aren’t accepted. I have the grant, but am paying $100 a week for Outschool tutoring in high school math, which is not acceptable for the grant. It’s horribly run.

I agree with it being so hard to access your money for your child’s needs. Why won’t they let you do Outschool? It’s on the list.

It is on the list and if you search for classes or sessions that are covered, tons pop up, including my child’s math tutor. Then when you click to purchase a session, it says s problem was encountered. I asked the tutor who said admin told they can’t get classwallet to actually approve it even though they did initially, which is why she’s on the list. Another friend was using a private math tutor who was approved and the grant covered the sessions, until they all of a sudden started denying them: same tutor, same subject, same time length, same cost, previously approved and now denied.

Those who missed applying for the grant, missed nothing.

Sorry Glennn, I PERSONALLY brought this problem to your attention and now we all have new iPads courtesy of you!

If the student has a disability (as indicated on their FACTS application), up to $750 in grant funds can also be used to purchase Assistive Technology Items.

I think this is a one-time thing to mitigate pandemic learning loss.

There is a second link on classwallet under shopping that is a store- I think it ended up being Office Depot. It let me order the calculators. It says they are approved, so we’ll see if they show.

That’s disappointing about Outschool. It could have been a great resource. The only plus has been that since I had the grant I wanted to use it so I have found a speech teacher we really like so we will stick with her, even though I will be paying out of pocket soon.

We haven't been able to use it. We've used it for a few Outschool classes and weekly tutoring for one child, but were never able to find the right fit for my other child. Everyone good was booked.

You can only order items if your child has a disability.

NP here.
***The problem with Outschool is that they just introduced a new type of class where the tutor lists all the times they are available and you can choose one (instead of the tutor listing each session as a class and you having to choose one). ClassWallet for some reason won't pay for the NEW type of listing which is much more convenient for the tutors. They will still pay for the OLD type of listing. I had to ask my daughter's tutor to create a private listing just for us so we could pay through Class Wallet.

I have two children who qualified in August. One is very needy and her money was used up in two months. The other is less needy and has money left over which I wish I could have used for the first one! Ugh. So I can definitely understand both “sides.” STILL, am grateful for any help at all. I am so used to paying for EVERYTHING out of pocket, this was such a rare blessing! I really felt “seen,” to be honest. It makes me feel pretty emotional. 😢

We're in the same situation. One has $100 left, the other has $1000.

It’s been awesome. We only have $100 left. It really pushed my IEP child to get some much needed help to catch up. DC never had a tutor before. Phonics, grammar, spelling, reading, parts of speech, math facts, math lessons, handwriting are finally shored up with having the assistance. The regularity of the tutors helped DC in so many ways. The grant money went to very good use for us.

I'm here too. I wish there was a way to share with a sibling. One of mine has 1000 left, and I spend about 900 a month on the other. Oh well, the 1500 was wonderful though. Learned about it here on DCUM!

Nope. My graphing calculator arrived today.

Folks do realize that you can get tutors added to the list, right? You do not need to use the tutors that were already on the list. For example, we had one tutor already (former teacher at my kids' school) and I had her fill out the paperwork and she was approved. I decided to hire an additional tutor for another subject. This time used a tutoring company. They filled out the paperwork and again were approved.

I know it is probably too late but was not sure folks knew since they were saying all tutors were booked.

It was a blessing to have this grant. It gave DC attention in all their weak spots. This did truly accelerate their learning. Happy to have had the opportunity to hire tutors in all subject areas for 4 months.
