Virginia learning acceleration grant

Anyone else trying to use up the remaining funds in ClassWallet before year end? We used some of it but still lots left. Not interested in online classes. We already have an ipad, although it is several years old. Are graphing calculators used in HS? Please share the model. Any other ideas?

I don't think you can use the funds to buy stuff unless your child is specifically diagnosed with a need for augmented communication.

We just got an iPad. Everyone is getting IPads so the money doesn’t go back to the state.

Sorry Glennn, I PERSONALLY brought this problem to your attention and now we all have new iPads courtesy of you!

We used the funds for in person tutoring and the grant was really helpful. Anyone knows if this is going to be offered again next year?

Why did you get the funds if you don't need them? My kid has $600 worth of tutoring a month, so if you want to pass the funds along to me, that be great.

It was offered again but there is an income cap now.

There should have been an income cap or an educational gap requirement all along. The State has both pieces of data, a persons income from tax forms and a kids test scores from the VGA and SOL. The State should have prioritized the kids who were behind first. They could have sent emails and letters to those families first. Then a second wave to the next furthest behind, and so on. Most of the money seems to have gone to parents who provide enrichment for their kids and not the target audience.

We did need the funds. We used it for therapy that was not covered by our insurance.

Any kid with a IEP that specifies any disability can use it to buy stuff.

Return the money that you have left if you don't have tutoring bills or OT bills or other therapy bills. That way other people who need the money for similar expenses. I don't understand why people would buy an iPad that they don't really need instead of returning the money. People have legit bills that they could be using the money for, it is such a sense of entitlement that you would spend the money on something unnecessary.

Crazy to me that people have leftover money. I used all mine in a month and a half to pay for my daughter's dyslexia tutoring.

If you received the money for therapy for your child, can you not just...continue that therapy? Was $1500 really enough to pay for what you needed? I feel like that's at MOST ten sessions.

The funds this year were via the federal government and if they aren't used, they are returned to the federal government. You can't just send them back and have them given to another VA student.
