| Who gets these funds? I have a child with a disability and never received anything. |
|
If you received this grant, you got about a million emails reminding you that the funds expire on December 31.
Talk to your tutor or whoever is providing services to your kid. To the extent you have a need and your schedule allows, schedule as much as you can to spend the grant down to zero. Don't try to buy an ipad unless your child has a documented disability that allows you to use it as a communication device or something similar. I'd be concerned that would come back to cause a problem. |
Let’s be real: many, many legit tutors or classes aren’t accepted. I have the grant, but am paying $100 a week for Outschool tutoring in high school math, which is not acceptable for the grant. It’s horribly run. |

I did buy a graphing calculator and this kid does not have an IEP. I have had trouble spending it for both of my kids. 1) the first kid was failing math last year. I paid out of pocket for a tutor. I got approved for the grant over the summer- I think there was a second round. Now, he doesn’t need tutoring. He has an A in math. So- what do I do with it? I bought him some math related items (calculator, timer), but that’s it. I would to use it for his personal counseling that he has thanks to life after Covid, but that’s not allowed.
Other kid has an IEP but it was almost impossible to find a provider. He needs a very specialized type of speech and it took months to find someone. He is finally getting services but they started in late October and are weekly so they just aren’t that much money. He may spend it all but he may not. |
I agree with it being so hard to access your money for your child’s needs. Why won’t they let you do Outschool? It’s on the list. |
| For real- how are folks getting funded for services for their kids? I’m bleeding money to support my kid with an IEP. |
There were some emails sent out that they were available. You had to apply for them. |
Knowledgeable parents. AKA mostly UMC parents. The parents who need these grants the least. |
I learned about it from DCUM lol. But applied too late and missed the first round. Got picked in second round. |
| We hired two tutors from Educational Connections. Fantastic and caught my DCs up in math. Wish this type of grant was something available more often. |
| My kid’s speech teacher told me about it. It was full first round but we got money in the second round. It’s $1500 which isn’t nothing but also not nearly what people paying for twice weekly dyslexia tutoring need to cover their costs. |
Is there an income cap for the IEP kids? I’m looking and can’t find anything related to IEP and income. |
Ignore. I just realized the application was closed. |
| How are people ordering calculators? I don’t see any listed on staples- are you getting them somewhere else. I’m looking at the categories listed on class wallet |
| We got in on the second round of the grants but by then all of the tutors around us were booked. We ended up not using the funds. Hopefully it’ll go to someone more needy next year. |
