UNC letter?

That’s interesting, in a FB group I’m in, the prevailing wisdom is to let the student contact Admissions and drive the process.

It was a joke, but ok!

I was responding to your first sentence, not your second.

Well it was a letter to parents. I guess they’re open to questions from anyone.

Got one a few years ago, rejected a couple months later. I believe it goes to everyone.

Why would they “bother “!?
Schools want people that they accept to attend. the chances are that your kid will not get in. But also, there is a chance that they will get in, but will get into other schools as well.they want them to come there if they do get in.

We got one too yesterday. It is confusing to receive the letter. Did they send these type of letters in the past?

Probably just to demonstrate some old fashioned courtesy. Also, some parents may not know where kids are applying.

NP here
I can't imagine that. I would think a kid would have to go to great lengths to hide it. I mean, how would the kid pay the application fee without using his parent's credit card? Or pay to send test scores.
And why would a student even need to hide it--especially a school like UNC?

Please did anyone got this type of letter in the past? What was the outcome? Feeling anxious

Ah, they have their own debit card from their own account that’s funded from their own job (they’ve had since 14). That also typically comes with a fierce independent streak. 🤪

At least our DC let us pay them back as we would’ve gladly paid for it in the first place. Most of their other applications offered fee waivers so it was only for one. Fee waivers came either because DC attended on-campus tours, a collegiate fair and spoke with a rep, had sufficient GPA/stats, or simply asked. None are Top 20 (if that matters) but none of them made DC’s Top 5. And that’s what counts as far as we’re concerned.

With a parent alum of a UNC rival, the Tar Hells never stood a chance with our DC. But good luck to those who applied. As hard as it is to admit, it is a good school, esp if the “fit” is right.

We received this letter. It’s a nothing burger that went straight to the trash. Just saying thanks for applying. The letter specifically says no decisions have been made yet. I can’t believe people are trying to glean meaning from it.

How is this hard to understand?

if you are concerned about the message, call them and tell them.

How is it hard to read a post and walk away rather than replying with something rude and snarky? Be kind.

It's a lot of people's first rodeo. No need for snark.

In the past I heard of the UNC letters going to alumni parents. Might have expanded it recently

It means nothing if you bothered to read the thread. Also, please learn how to use punctuation.
