Why are they sending this letter to the parents, is my question.
Probably just to demonstrate some old fashioned courtesy. Also, some parents may not know where kids are applying.
NP here I can't imagine that. I would think a kid would have to go to great lengths to hide it. I mean, how would the kid pay the application fee without using his parent's credit card? Or pay to send test scores. And why would a student even need to hide it--especially a school like UNC?
Ah, they have their own debit card from their own account that’s funded from their own job (they’ve had since 14). That also typically comes with a fierce independent streak. 🤪 At least our DC let us pay them back as we would’ve gladly paid for it in the first place. Most of their other applications offered fee waivers so it was only for one. Fee waivers came either because DC attended on-campus tours, a collegiate fair and spoke with a rep, had sufficient GPA/stats, or simply asked. None are Top 20 (if that matters) but none of them made DC’s Top 5. And that’s what counts as far as we’re concerned. With a parent alum of a UNC rival, the Tar Hells never stood a chance with our DC. But good luck to those who applied. As hard as it is to admit, it is a good school, esp if the “fit” is right.
