Did anyone else receive this form letter...starts out saying, "On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, I write to express our gratitude for DC's decision to apply to UNC Chapel Hill. We’re fortunate at Carolina to have the interest of many smart and good-hearted students, and we appreciate the opportunity to get to know DC...
Wondering if it means good/bad news forthcoming or means nothing at all. |
We got one too and I doubt my DS is getting in. |
Email or paper? |
Means nothing. |
Auto-generated Form Letter? |
It's a form letter. Thank the kid for applying.
How is this hard to understand? if you are concerned about the message, call them and tell them. |
Boilerplate response. |
How is it hard to read a post and walk away rather than replying with something rude and snarky? Be kind. |

C’mon OP. This must be your first rodeo. The letter means nothing. Absolutely nothing. |
NP—we got one too. It was a form letter but the way it was sounding was that it was going to be a let down letter (talked about how they get tons of wonderful applicants, etc). Probably everyone got one, but I get your curiosity too. Sounded a bit like they are trying to let you down easy in advance. |
Why are they sending this letter to the parents, is my question. |
OP here, and in fact, this is our first child applying to college. Thank you! |
Probably just to demonstrate some old fashioned courtesy. Also, some parents may not know where kids are applying. |
We got one and agree it read like a let down letter. We are well aware that out of state admissions are tough for UNC but still odd and I’m not showing my kid (it was addressed to parents). If it is indeed just a form letter that they send to all applicants, it’s very weirdly worded. |
