Shockingly graphic photo essay on the destruction caused by AR-15's in today's WP

I couldn't get through the entire article today. I saw some video of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas right after it happened and it was horrific.

This a true national shame and a stain on America. I have to admit that in 2012, after Sandy Hook, when no legislation passed, I lost a lot of faith in America that I have yet to regain. The gun violence, and the seeming impossibility of even keeping it at bay is a major reason I'm looking for my kids to go to college abroad.

Vast majority is a bit of an overstatement at the national level - https://news.gallup.com/poll/1645/guns.aspx but probably accurate in DCUM land.

In your own link:
90+ % of all respondents favor universal background checks.
86% favor red flag laws
77% favor 30 day waiting periods
76% support raising the legal purchasing age

How is that not a vast majority??????

Their delusion to support guns knows no bounds. Notice they have nothing to say after you point out their error.

Gun nuts/forced birthers are happy to totally strip women of bodily autonomy when maybe 10% of the population supports that, but 70% and up is just too low to be taking small steps to save kids from a violent death.

(I would guess that many gun nuts are also domestic abusers and are aware on some level that they shouldn’t have guns, and wouldn’t.)

Maybe one day you will get your chance to kill someone! Yay!

Mr Ammosexual will be too much of a coward to look at the pictures.

Listen to the gunshots in the Las Vegas video and realize that the Supreme Court is currently hearing the appeal to make bump stocks legal again.

It’s truly chilling.

Well it's obviously not a gun problem because we are the only country you must want to illness and males so that's obviously the issue.....

The fact that people lack the basic thinking skills to recognize the impact of such powerful weapons is perhaps the greatest tragedy.

Or maybe it is that not everyone buys into the hype/propaganda about the AR-15. First the name, the AR does not stand for assault rifle but rather for Armalite the company that first made the rifle. Second, the typical deer hunting rifle, a .308 Winchester, has a greater ballistic capability. Third these hunting rifles can easily be equipped with 20 round magazines, yes the bolt action design of the rifle slows firing speed but it is still a very effective weapon. Do you plan to take away everyone’s hunting rifle as well. I

Don’t get me wrong mass shootings are horrific and terrible events, but the AR-15 that everyone wants to get rid of has been around since the 1950’s, a good 40 years before we began to see mass shootings at schools and other venues.

Want to stop mass shootings, improve mental health screenings and treatment. Get people with mental illness into treatment and where necessary confinement. That is how you will stop mass shootings.

People with mental illness will always find a way to do harm. In countries with restricted access to guns they do it by driving vehicles into pedestrian only spaces.

Fix the root cause of the problem for once.

I read the whole thing. My kids are 14 and 12 and those schools just as easily could have been theirs. Makes me sick.

Yeah, sure. Are you advocating for the huge amounts of money and increased infrastructure needed for that?

We can do both-no more fun toy gun and more money for mental health.

“Well, akshually, if you call a gun a gun instead of calling it a firearm, right there you’ve lost the argument…”

Hey. Genius. Red flag laws would keep people with strong mental health problems and a history of domestic abuse from getting these guns. You cowards can’t even support that.

I bet you didn’t even look at the pictures. I bet Mr. Braggy “I have a Colt gun” didn’t either. Why do I think that? Because you want to stay stupid. You don’t want to admit that thee damage these assault rifles (whether or not the AR stands for that, that’s what it is, and you know it) do is massively more than regular guns.

We absolutely need more investment into mental health support in this country. It’s a crisis.

We also need stronger gun laws. We need to do both.

You're right, it's not the gun. It's the mental health..... Because no other country in the world has mental health issues..... Oh they do but they don't have the mass shootings? Then I wonder what the difference here could be

Ugh. I can’t anymore. Why can’t we be like Australia or Switzerland with this?

Any and all of these lawmakers and judges should be put in a lockdown with their families and feel what it’s like to be hunted with weapons you don’t stand a chance. They need to experience that terror and grief. It’s unbelievable how they lack all empathy and sense.
