I thought the same thing until my hubby told me there is a connection with Mason and the current captain and star of the US Men's National team, Christian Pulisic. His dad and uncle both played soccer at Mason and so did his mom. His dad is even in the Mason Men's Soccer Hall of Fame. Captain America plays for AC Milan, of course. I found out their address is same building as Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, so it's not a mailbox address. |
Conveniently, my fellow soccer moms either didn't read or chose to omit the fact that the fee includes 2 official AC Milan jerseys, 2 official AC Milan shorts, 2 official AC Milan pairs of socks, and an official AC Milan gymbag. We all know that, unfortunately, any officially licensed professional team merchandise is expensive. My husband's Barca jerseys are over $100 each with tax. My U12 daughter participated in Barca's DC camp this summer and only received 1 jersey as her kit. |
Anybody see the picture of the AC Milan head coach they have on their website? ![]() |
This is a scam. If they were interested in pulling in the best talent, they'd have an open tryout with no fee or a $25 fee to cover the field costs. They are trying to make money at every turn. Run away. |
I couldn't believe I got an email asking me to pay $735. Hell no. They wont get anyone worth rostering on a travel team to show up unless its free. I love Milan but this isn't the right way to do it |
Oh and travel soccer is not a scam? |
It is, but travel soccer doesn't force you to buy $250 worth of merchandise for five days of use. |
I'm sorry, where on the website does it say they are looking for the best talent? It is very clear from the website what they are offering and how much it costs. You are free to do it or not. Why is that a scam? It makes sense that part of the reason AC Milan signed Pulisic is to be able to market him in the US for these camps and programs. Good business. Why not use the most popular US player to help market your brand? I'm so tired of people saying anything that costs more money than they are willing to spend is somehow a scam. There are so many things that cost a lot of money. Is a trip to Disney a scam? Summer camps? Taylor Swift concerts? NFL games? These things all cost a lot of money but people do them because they enjoy it. They are all up front about what you get and how much it costs. Just because you don't want or can't afford them doesn't make them a scam. |
No camp in the world charges $250 for apparel and a "gym sac" for five evenings of soccer. Show me another. It's a scam run by a local lawyer. Sorry if the PSA offended you. |
If you are already a AC Milan fan and were going to purchase merchandise anyway then maybe it's not too bad. Or, if like many people in this area, you don't even flinch at spending $750 for a few days of fun for your kids because your income allows it. As long as there are people with money to spend in this area there will be businesses trying to capitalize on it. There are many people here who regularly spend a few hundred dollars on a nice dinner out for the family. What difference is a few hundred for a soccer camp? |
Scam implies a deception. Where is the deception here? People know it costs 750 for 5 days. If they choose to pay how were they tricked? |
Thanks for the insight. Love that Pulisic is doing so well for AC Milan, I was also unaware of the family connection to George Mason. Maybe they will develop into something more involved than just the “Experience Camps” like some of the other European Club Camps and Tours. -However, I just don’t see too many U11 and under kids doing camp from 5-9pm during the school week Monday to Fridays on those potential cold December Nights. And for the older Kids, there is no room for homework… anyway, I hope they get their timing ironed out if they really want to set up training for the U littles. |
Looks like they want to Run a Spring Academy team and you should go to this camp if you want to be included in their Spring (Feb-June 2024) Academy Team. I’m just not sure how many kids they will get and most are already committed to other travel clubs. Maybe some kids will switch, maybe we will see them field teams in NCSL this spring or maybe they will just do training, scrimmages, tournaments and the AC Milan tour only then return next year? |
Oh, I must be a horrible soccer mom then, since I thought my 11 year old daughter could proudly wear official AC Milan jerseys, shorts, and socks like Christian Pulisic. I would hate for anyone seeing my daughter wear the same team jersey that the captain and star of the US National Men's Soccer team wears. I had no idea these were throw away, one time use jerseys, shorts, socks, and gymbag. They also have clearly stated you wear the same clothes for the academy. |
