Sure, but it’s no longer going to be %20. It might end up being a dollar.

Who are you to speak on behalf of all tipped workers? Some tipped workers probably don't want it. Other tipped workers evidently do want it. Just like in DC.

New poster. I can't fathom any server in the restaurant industry favoring this bill. I spent 10 years as a waiter and bartender and always made 2 to 5 times minimum wage. And that was in small town NY 20 yrs ago.

You do understand that you will be getting minimum wage and tips.

That's doubtful. Why throw uncertainty into a system that's working well. The system is great the way it is now. The only servers I can imagine supporting this are people who are bad at their jobs and make lousy tips.

Who says it's working well, besides you?

If someone is getting minimum wage, I am not giving 20% (and I always do on the value with tax, so it ends up being a bit more than 20%). I would give 10%, which is what I give in Europe. I tip in cash at the hairdresser and nail salon, or takeout (I do keep cash because my 5 year old likes to put the tip in the jar).

Probably not. Jawando has some professional Community Organizers at his press conference. Not actual workers.

Lets get real. Jawando is completely out of touch with reality.

Jawando is insane. This is the same man who wants to make it illegal for police to pull over motorists for a whole host of violations because something something racial equity.

This is a Jawando AND Mink bill. They are both so out there.

Bartenders have always been paid a wage.

Tell me you never worked in the service industry without telling me…

Why the bill does not affect bartenders

This makes no sense.

Why you would single out 1 group to not tip but continue to tip everyone else is asinine.

Even though I know DC requires the minimum wage, I still tip 20% when I go out to eat in DC, and everyone I know does the same. I think servers favor the bill for this reason. They know people aren't going to adjust their tipping behavior because servers now make the minimum wage -- the tipping culture for servers is just too ingrained. If I tip zero in DC (and other people do the same), servers will undoubtedly make less than before, but I think it's too hard to know what figure between 0% and 20% is now supposed to be the norm, so we just do 20% because it's what we've always done.

Just because you're dumb with your money doesn't mean everyone else should be.

Wages = $0 in tips. End of story. Actually, the silver lining is that this may finally kill tipping culture over the long haul. + +

Who says? Nearly every server in every establishment in the country.
