OP did nothing wrong other than a failure to verify, which isn’t unusual.
It’s sad that a single woman can’t be trusting and must assume the worst in people (men) they meet.

Waiting to have sex, while utterly unfashionable now, actually creates some time to get to know a man enough you might spot some red flags. He'd have to, you know, actually talk with you, take you places in public maybe, act like he's dating a person rather than just killing time on a few initial dates until he can get you into bed. While OP did nothing wrong, well, she needs to learn how to spot red flags and/or ask the right questions, long before sex starts.

I'm a veteran Tinder/Hinge dater and have heard this story three times on first dates from women describing a previous relationship.

Two of the times were right after the pandemic, so the men could get away with only hanging out at her place saying "restaurants aren't safe and my roommates don't want guests to come over."

The other commonality is believing them when they say they don't have social media due to a job issue. Essentially, you're setting yourself up unless you see where they live, meet their friends and view their socials.
