What was it upgraded to?

Fun times.

I'd try to leave early. Over the years I was caught in a few notorious rush hour commutes home during extreme weather in DC. I never want to do that again.

Level 4, out of level 5 severity

Check out the footage of what it was like at FedEx this evening. DC is just not a good outdoor concert town.

As opposed to all those other towns where it rains? I love when people act like WEATHER is unique to DC. did you happen to see the footage of the Taylor swift pouring rain concert? She was delayed for hours.

Are we expected to just have rain today? Does NYC get tornado warnings?

The threat is literally all up and down the east coast.

You do NOT want to be caught up in this, people. Plan to arrive home before 6pm, so that all the workers who absolutely need to stay at work, like nurses and doctors, have less crap to deal with.

+1 except personally I'd aim to be home by 4pm. As of now forecasters are saying likely around 5 or 6pm but be prepared for even an hour earlier. This is not the day to get stuck in your car. Get home, secure anything in your yard, walk the dog, and settle in at home. Hopefully this will end up falling apart and being no big deal but might as well be prepared.

Correct, I meant for local beltway folks. For those with a long commute to the northwest, they need to be home much earlier.

There are likely going to be significant updates soon - it's looking like a derecho-like event with increasing probability of a strong tornado. Which is really, really not what we're used to around here.

I know your neck of the woods might have nothing except thundery rain, but please take the warnings seriously.

Good luck. I hope you get the "rain hole" so you and all the other Pink fans can enjoy the concert.

Quote from National Weather Service:

" Primary threats include...
A few tornadoes likely with a couple intense tornadoes possible
Widespread damaging winds likely with isolated significant gusts
to 75 mph possible
Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY...A very favorable setup for severe thunderstorms including
tornadoes and widespread damaging winds is unfolding across the
region, with severe storms expected to steadily develop and increase
across the region this afternoon."

If you live southeast of the beltway (Alexandria) what time do you think you need to be home? By 6pm?

do you think it’s safe to stay in an office downtown until it passes, then take metro home? Looks like Cwg has narrowed impact window to 5-7 pm.

Sure, assuming no power disruptions or debris on/damage to the above-ground tracks.
