5pm. This Alexandria meteorologist says storm arrival by 5:30, but earlier is possible. https://twitter.com/patpend |
I don't see that on this feed... |
|
Unless you have an inflexible job, it's best to be home before rather than after the storm, since you never know what trees or downed power lines will block your commute. Yes, new timeline is for the storms to pass through between 5-7:30pm. |
OPM sending everyone home 2 hours early. |
So for sure nothing will happen. Pepco thanks you |
Fingers crossed! Haha. FWIW I saw some “storm watchers” on Twitter saying they thought the tornadoes, if any, would be in southern PA. |
This super super bright sun that emerged this afternoon and sudden onset is very hot temps was the same situation we had before the director last week. |

Yes, hoping this jinxes the storm. |
Yeah. This weather is nothing like the derecho 11 years ago - it was over 100 that day. But today is getting hot this afternoon... |
Where was the derecho the worst? I think some parts of Alexandria were without power for a few weeks. |
I was living in an apartment in Old Town at the time, and we didn't lost power at all (and the lines are above ground!). Honestly, I think it's very hit or miss. You can't really draw conclusions based on city or neighborhood, or even street. |
Agree. I was the only one in my Bethesda-area circle of friends to NOT lose power, and I believe it was because our tiny street is shaped like an S, so straight-line winds can't scream down the road and hit trees at full force. My friends all came to my house, with their kids, to recharge their devices and have some A/C. Some of them lost power for several days. I hope this derecho-like event will be considerably milder. |
