Well, you will see significantly fewer URM kids in the future. Free gravy train is over.

You can feel how you want about AA but this kind of language “free gravy train” is really gross, after everything this nation has done to black people. You are not a good person.

When PP wrote, ""everything this nation has done to black people", what PP meant was "everything whites have done to black people.". PP did not mean what Asians, Muslims, Indians (from India) have done to black people. What the original gravy train PP meant to ask is, why, because of what whites have done to black people, should Asian, Muslim, and Indian children have to pay the price of the sins of the white people?

Because what the PP wrote was right. It’s not what whites have done to black people. No one is asking us to solve what happened in Kenya or Brazil or the Caribbean. The issue is what the US did to black people living in the US. So just like Asian, Muslim and Indian children in the US get to reap the advantage of living in a developed country which has horrifically been built on the backs of exploited African-Americans, then they will be part of the process to pay them back. It’s a national debt, not a white people debt. The white children today are no more personally responsible than the Asian, Muslim or Indian children.

Ah, yes, white children are not responsible for the sins of its forefathers. So, it must be the children of others who must bear the cost. Makes sense to me. It's like if my spouse commits a crime, I go to jail to pay the domestic debt. Spouse gets caught DUI. I will gladly go to jail for domestic tranquility. Makes sense. Got it.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul is biblical. It's the founding principle of this country. Not my kids' problem. Decimate indians and blacks. Let others' children pay. That's how this country became so great.

How is “a workaround” if a Supreme Court Justice basically says “do it this way” and the AOs comply?

So are you all saying you want all kids reduced to a number for admissions? No interviews, no letters, no activities, no awards no essays. You might find out about a kids background, oh no! Who are your kids that you think that would be a good thing for them? Robots?

Thank you for this.
I am an African immigrant and it pains me how much other POC immigrants willfully ignore the continuing fight African Americans have had to face in this country.

What I meant was when colleges claim that nothing will change, my suspicious mind says they will simply exaggerate the percentage of black students on their campus. That's their workaround.

As far as I know no colleges have claimed that. They all say they will continue to work to find a different path. But as AP article (link up-thread) reported, they have not identified a workaround. Many have tried, none found.

The one who claim nothing will change are some DCUM posters here. I think many of them are still in denial and, it appears, many don't read news.

I think OP's question is off. Ivies publicly claim they will continue to try to diversify. The reality is that there aren't that many black students to begin with. What they say publicly may not be what they do in private.

I don't doubt they will continue to try that. This decision just makes it more difficult. The fact you didn't see too many of URMs on campus doesn't necessary mean the school didn't try hard enough. It just means that, even w/ help of AA, there just aren't enough URM kids to select from.

Keep believing that, while Ling Ling gets rejected.

There are enough high stats URMs to get to the 5-6% average at elite colleges for Blacks, 7-8% for Hispanics, and 0 5% for Native Americans.

But Harvard is already 14-15% black acceptance rate. You mean they're going to go down?

There are ALOT of white kids who genuinely believe they are part of the minority. Some examples:

Kids who have a second cousin who is Muslim.

Some Jewish kids.

Kids who lived in a third world country when their diplomat parent’s job required a move.

These are just examples, but I could easily se an essay that could confuse an AO.

So which is it?

URMs are at a school because of AA? or
URMs are at a school because they are high stats?

Because the argument has been that URMs are unfairly thought by some people to be at a particular school because of AA and the counter to that had been NO, they are high stats and just happen to also be URM.

If they’re high stats, then it won’t make a difference one way or another if race gives a leg up and they no longer have to deal with people saying they only got in because of their race.

But this thread seems to think URM rates will totally drop without AA. So they really do only get in because of their race? Their stats are not actually high enough to get in otherwise? Then those people that said they only got in because of their race are right?

PP here who wrote the bolded comment and I agree. Also wanted to add that I’m Indian-American. I hope we get to the day when AA isn’t needed, but we aren’t there yet. In any case, the Supreme Court has decided. Maybe we need to focus on other things now - like how to improve poor K-12 schools so kids are prepared for college; how to give black students the support they need at schools they enroll in (some of those may have fewer resources); how to improve college tuition costs, which is not sustainable; how to get people elected who won’t continue to take this country back decades.

I never understood the anger about AA. I want my children to grow up to be happy and able to take care of themselves. Going to an Ivy doesn’t bring happiness, and strivers will strive anywhere and achieve. Being able to brag about my kid’s college is just not important to me. And I’m not going to pit my family against other minorities over that issue.

AOs aren't fools. They know, wink, wink. Its their MO to get the URM stats up while at the same time keeping resource-sink URMs out.

Well, I am sorry if you feel that way but that's exactly how I feel. Asians have done nothing to blacks, owe nothing to blacks and I resent the fact that AA negatively affected Asian kids the most. It's like paying for lunch that you weren't even part of having. And paying it year after year. LOL

That is so racist PP.

And how exactly are Asians paying for lunch?

Asians have not come anywhere near close to the history that black Americans have endured in this country.

By their seats taken under AA. Which is exactly what Supreme Court killed it last week.

I don't know if anyone who said that.
