Thoughts on Will Jawando

What could possibly go wrong putting someone who ruined MoCo into the Senate? The entire state of MD will decline.

Damn you, Poe's Law.

Not a crazy right wing person here. I am sick of his anti-police stance. His current legislation is built off his idea that officers are inherently evil and racist, which I simply can’t get behind. I actually know officers, so I can’t buy his argument.

I won’t vote for him.

He’s not anti police, you’re off your rocker.

My husband, dad and BIL are officers but they all have advanced degrees and can understand the nuances of crying like a baby because you can’t just freely beat people and ensuring accountability.

You can’t just beat people and have racist policies.

dp.. so... your husband, dad and BIL cops are all voting for Jawando?

Jawando will not be good for MD.

Crime is on the rise in MoCo under Progressives like Jawando and Elrich. The same will happen to all of MD because criminals will feel emboldened because they know that Progressives are soft on crime.

Look at Portland, SF, and now MoCo. It's starts with increase in petty crime, then escalates. I used to live in SF. It saddens me to see what's going on there.

Jawando will also increase taxes to fund his pet projects (ie, money poured down the drain), decrease funding for police and law enforcement, and will be soft on crime. He will dumb down the curriculum in schools for equity (same happened in SF, and it's a mess).

I'm no right winger, but this is not the way for MD.

Since your family members are all officers, I’m sure you are aware that officers aren’t freely beating people, nor are they running from accountability. There isn’t a single statistic coming out of MCPD that would *remotely* support your statement. Not at all. I challenge you to find one statistic out of MCPD that shows this. Just one. I’m fairly certain you won’t be able to.

This is why I won’t vote for Jawando. He promotes fallacies like the one above. His current Step Act is built off the idea that fewer police stops will make people safer because it means fewer interactions with the police. I have yet to see anything that supports this allegation. All I see is an effort that will make everybody in Montgomery County less safe.

Since they are police yes cops best people freely and good cops were afraid to report it.

Coos having sticky notes tfat say narc on their desks for being honest.

Coos refusing to give backup to cops who report bad cops.

Eyewitness accounts of racism all over the police force. Of course there is.

Listen Polly Anna, your family is not telling you the truth because it would make you disrespect them.

Like I said, people like you who have been brainwashed won’t vote for him and bad cops will perpetuate the lies.

Your family who are cops, how many times have they reported a bad cop? Because if the answer is 0 guess what, they are not good ones.

Look at stats on moco in the 80’s going forward. Even with the crime this year it’s historically low… it’s like complaining about 5% mortgage rates.

You provided no statistics (as expected) and threw in a couple insults and assumptions.

Here’s a fact for you: most internal affairs complaints come from other officers. Yes, that’s correct. Officers report other officers more than the public reports officers. You are welcome to call the district if you would like that confirmed.

I’m not brainwashed. I’m able to separate fact from fiction, and I can see that Jawando manipulates information. The simplest example is his attack on SROs. He helped remove them based off cherry-picked data, and then the county reversed that decision. Why? Because of public outcry for safety in schools.

Again you won’t take eye witness accounts over statistics which shows your head is in the sand.

Of course investigation come from good cops… that’s why they get notes on their desks/cars/home about being narcs and people refuse to give them backup. Tgats why most coos won’t report bad acts and stand and watch as we saw in the Aspen hill case.

SROs weee simply renamed and given an office and the exact same humans who were SROs 3 years ago are SROs today. The decision was never reversed it was implemented over 2 years as planned.

So your family has reported 0 bad cops which says a lot… brainwashed.

Good cops can’t waste their time or energy trying to change the minds of uneducated people like you they need help getting them off them force.

I’m pretty certain I’ve dealt with you before. I see a familiar pattern of unsubstantiated comments and personal attacks. I won’t be responding again.

NP

This person will never offer statistics to support her claims. No point in trying to have a conversation with someone who is convinced they are right “just because I say so.”

go look it up.

You should.

For the first quarter of 2023, violent crime is up 7%.
Carjackings are up 263% this first quarter of 2023 compared to last year.
Personal robbery is up 15%.
Weapons offenses are up 11%
Assaults are up 11%
Human trafficking is up 17%
And sex offenses are up 10%

And if you want year over year, 2022 had more violent and nonviolent crime than 2019, which is the year everyone looks to compare to, because it is pre-pandemic.

Simply put, there are far more guns, and more people are using them.

This kind of stuff might have happened 20 years ago, or in different departments, but it's not really feasible now. Most cops don't have desks, for one. And the CAD both documents and remedies any back-up failures.

And violent crime is up, and has been up since covid. but it hurts lower-income Black males the most. So perhaps it's just mostly invisible to everyone else.

Cop jargon.

Not a cop. That's what the data say. Anyone who actually cares about closing racial disparities needs to start there, or else they are just full of performative bull ****.

I think he's fine. The discourse about Jawando on DCUM is so over the top that it makes me want to vote for him just to stick it to you all. Crime has risen everywhere, Jawando did not cause it, don't be ridiculous.

Like most of his colleagues, and maybe more so than them, he is fiscally irresponsible. They act like we can just borrow our way to more spending, and local government doesn't work like that. If there is a recession, the council is setting up the county for a lot of pain. But the federal budget is a little different. If elected to the Senate, his overall values align with mine so I'd be willing to vote for him in the primary.

What would help is for police to develop positive relationships with communities of color. But they basically have zero relationships with Latino communities, and very negative ones with Black communities. Just issuing tickets does not solve these problems.

Referring to people as "Black males" (or "white females", or whatever) is cop jargon.

There is no way he would win a state Senate seat imo because his position on crime is so extreme and illogical. I think a lot of his tweets and proposed bills would really come back under scrutiny, and he would be under a much larger spotlight. He might be right for his district but he’s not right for the state. Even in terms of his council seat, I think he has gotten by because he is charming and handsome. When I met him, he knocked my socks off with his personality. I’m sure I’m not the only one and I’m sure he wins people over because of his charm but that won’t be enough to win a State.

I remember seeing him on Don Lemon after that video of those two dumb cops at the ES came out (the one where the cops were saying the kid needed an old fashioned beat down basically). I had watched the entire video, which was a couple hours, I think. It was clear to me that neither Lemon nor Jawando had watched more than the excerpts that were in the news, as they made inaccurate factual statements that were contradicted if you had watched the whole thing. Really unimpressed by someone who went on national TV to talk about a video that he hadn’t watched. He just doesn’t seem careful or considered or informed or balanced. Am I’m a dyed in the wool blue democrat.
