Some of the key players in that group are GOP operatives, they have an agenda and it’s to get people to vote Republican.

Not true but can’t wait to vote a straight R ticket and get these fools off the SB ✌️

Maybe true. But, how about the FLE Committee composed of Democrat activists and political cronies?
Does that bother you?

We need middle ground and we are not getting it.
then, run for school board.

The next Dranesville school board member is probably going to come from Herndon and less likely to put Langley first when making every decision like Elaine did.

Really? Still waiting for that magical Herndon candidate to materialize.
DP

She materialized a while back.

Unclear that she’ll face any opposition, either.

an attorney named Paul Bartkowski filed to run for the Dranesville seat against Robyn Lady. So at least we will have a choice.

I don't see much evidence the Rs are fielding SB candidates in at least half the magisterial districts. And some of these Rs and Is? Meren may be a flake but she'll demolish Jackson in the Hunter Mill race, assuming she gets endorsed again. Plus, if Dranesville even has a Republican candidate, it's a closely held secret.

Fairfax GOP will likely endorse Paul Bartkowski in Dranesville. He will be a strong choice for those looking for balance on a school board with a super-majority of Democrats for the past 8+ years.

I don’t see this on VPAP yet but it looks like Bartkowski lives in part of Falls Church that’s in Dranesville.

David Fiske is also challenging Jimmy Bierman for the Dranesville BOS seat. Bierman is the party favorite, just like Karl Frisch was when he ran for the 37th and got beat by Holly Seibold. This may be the year for upstarts to upset the candidates anointed by the FCDC party machine.

I hate that political parties endorse school board members at all. But since most are endorsed by the Fairfax Democrats apparatus, I'll be voting for the GOP endorsed candidate.

Bartkowski needs a website and to start challenging Robyn Lady to debates ASAP. He’s had kids in FCPS; she was an FCPS insider but she isn’t a parent (except to her dog).

I just checked. This is not a story in the media so I would back off fast.

I should have been more specific. My concern is that this group is trying to create a lot of parental angst about the FCPS, not specifically to change the composition of the school board to R - they’d like to do that too but I don’t think that’s their primary agenda. They want parents mad at Dems so they vote GOP in statewide etc races. It’s the playbook that elected Youngkin. There’s a breathless “OMG look at FCPS failing our students again, it’s an outrage!” about any little incident they can exploit. I’m

Personally, I wish school board wasn’t partisan in any sense but in the age of so much divisiveness that’s probably a pipe dream.

Just do everyone a favor and move to Florida, then.

DP. You do know the current School Board got elected in Fairfax but then spent four years pretending they all lived in San Francisco.

Good riddance to THEM!

I don't know the people in this group. From what I read online, there appears to be some divisiveness there. I think they have become political activists because of the actions and inactions of our School Board. I think it began with closed schools--and then people started paying more attention to what our School Board does.

I think most people in Fairfax County have no idea what is going on. Local news reporting is almost non-existent except for social media--and that usually comes through "echo chambers." WAPO is a propaganda piece for the School Board. Fairfax Times is the reverse for Asra.

It seems to me that there are lots of "stovepipe issues." These all have good reasons for being activists--but some go to the extreme. I'll leave off the names of the people i think to be leaders.
Examples:
1. The autistic group--everything is about Special ED. They have some good reasons to be in this group, but have gone to the extreme at the expense of the average child.
2. The Pride Group--Used to be in support of gays--now the main focus is trans in opposition to those who want separate bathrooms and for girls sports to be limited to biological girls. Proponents of mixed gender FLE. Many of the FLE members are in this group.
3. The Open Schools people who have now joined other groups in opposition

4. The Everything is racist groups--they have strong support on the SB. Lots of talk, but no concrete solutions other than to scream about it. Anything to avoid the hard solutions--which, to me, means help the kids where they are with instruction and quit paying money for cosmetic solutions. Some of these people think that shifting boundaries will solve the problem--it won't. It never does. It just covers it up.
The "Equity" push is their mantra.

I thought the FCPA had promise. It was basically the #OpenFCPS folks rebranding and trying to focus on a broader range of school issues after schools finally reopened. The problem was that they weren’t very transparent and it seemed like it was probably no more than 5-10 activists from Great Falls and Burke/Fairfax Station.

Now that the election is getting closer and the Democrats are building up steam to dominate the fall elections again, they are getting more active again but it feels desperate. Making a big deal about a fight at Langley is a prime example. It feeds into the narrative that FCPS is out of control and in need of a total overhaul, but then it pisses off some of the other conservatives at Langley who care very much about protecting the school’s image. So you end up with people who should be allies at cross-purposes with one another.

The Fairfax GOP is apparently endorsing candidates later this week. It will be interesting to see how many candidates they actually have and then finding out whether they are MAGA types or a more moderate alternative to the FCDC folks like Frisch and Meren. As someone in Dranesville, I have no sense Robyn Lady would be anything other than another “go along to get along” Democrat like Tholen, so I’m intrigued to hear this guy Bartkowski is running. But if his agenda turns out to be all about school vouchers and charter schools, not going to be interested in him, either.
