Waiting is hard

It isn't a pre-school thing. Upper schools will invite applicants to things like plays, music events, sports games, etc. as another piece of getting to know the school. A few high schools have "interest events" for recruiting, like a sports day or honors days, etc. The latter two invitations tend to be a good indication of acceptance. The prior ones are similar to open house invitations. More often these types of invitations come after admission and while wooing the accepted students.

Are EVER there ANY indicators whatsoever at the pr-k and or the k levels?

Last year, a handful of schools posted pix on Instagram of staff putting swag into UPS. This, of course, set off a package tracking frenzy. Ultimately, we were fortunate. First notification was Ravenna (at around 3pm), followed by a personal email shortly after 4. They then received a small package the next day with a handwritten "congrats" from the AD and minor swag (tumbler and car magnet, I think). I had already purchased swag from each of the schools to which they applied just in case they were accepted, so I had a hoodie and hat in hand to toss their way.

Smart. Good idea.

No actually I think this is weird. What if they hadn't been accepted? What would you have done, returned it?

Donated it. Why is that weird? You're about to spend $50K/year for school - adding $30 per school hardly seems outrageous.

we are waiting for 9th and i would never do this. imagine having swag from 1st choice school around the house and you don't get in? yikes!

We don’t have a clear top choice or ranking of the schools. That kind of stresses me out a little but I guess it’s good that my dd liked all her shadow days.

What DC privates send swag?

Potomac for one.

But not until the day of acceptances.

Everything happens the day of.
I've been through this 3 times. You have to wait until March 3.

Potomac is NOT DC

Neither is Landon, and they're the school PP mentioned as putting out videos of their admissions office sending swag via UPS

Well, that doesn’t surprise me one bit.

At the risk of stating the obvious, my kid never would have known that I had the swag if they hadn't gotten in. They actually wanted to keep (and did) one of the other choices just for giggles (and mind you, they did not get into their second choice).

To be fair, PP never said anything about DC. Someone asked about DC and I assume the PP responded regarding the schools to which they were referring, but they never said anything about DC.

DC privates includes the ones in Nova & Bethesda/Potomac. I think anyone literally thinking DC privates reference on the ones in DC proper here on DCUM is the type of pretentious parent living in DC and dying to be in the social circle of their neighbor that sends their kid to the local in DC private

No, DC privates ONLY mean those schools that are located in Washington, DC. Potomac, Landon, Holton, etc are NOT DC privates. Period.
