taxes and funding for MCPS need to be drastically cut in MoCo

There should be consequences for breaking school rules. When I went to MCPS kids would get detention, suspended and expelled. There were consequences and the severe ones meant that parents had to take action with their kids. I remember when the this trouble maker was suspended for a week. It was great to be in a class with out having the disruption. When he returned he was better behaved, not perfect at all, but he knew the school wasn't joking around. I also believe that central office, the school board or whoever is in charge should also face consequences for their decisions and inaction.

Superintendent needs to resign.

Parents need to parent. There are many, many wonderful parents who hold their children accountable. The ones who don't make school miserable for peers and staff alike.

OP, while I agree that MCPS has problems, the case of the two passed out girls is a parenting issue. It happened at 8am(!!!) which means the girls were likely drinking before school.

Here we go again! TLDR: bocce, kids museum, electric busses...

I never understand why bocce is on this list, at all.

I think that's the point they were trying to make. These are all non-issues but some seem to have an axe to grind and will find things to complain about.

Except bathrooms in schools are now locked because too many students were using them as drug dens. Absolutely sickening. Of course there are consequences for using drugs on school property. MCPS are a joke. Nothing but hangout clubs where zero learning goes on.

Funny, funny, funny. True, I could have written it better but what is true is that this kid was a major problem. What got him suspended and possibly expelled, was that he attacked a teacher. I’ll never forget it. This was 93 or 94.

I can’t understand why anyone who can afford private school in this county chooses public school, knowing all of this.

This * 1000
But since it happened in a Bethesda school, DCUM has to find someone else to blame.

Because those schools are better than anything the private schools have to offer.

Kids in MCPS go to school because they are hangout clubs where they can do whatever they want these days with impunity. Kids passed out drunk in BCC is a common occurrence to all of the widespread and out of control drug use in MC public high schools. Everyone already knows the problems are so bad in Moco schools that they have to now completely lock the bathrooms in schools to prevent all of the drug use. Scores continue to decline, discipline is zero, and there is never any accountability. Why does anyone pay taxes for these craptacular results? If all we are paying for are spaces where idiot kids can behave like lord of the flies, time to cut spending to the bone and give tax payers their money back. All of that billions is sure as hell not be used for learning. MCPS continue to go down the tubes.

Why aren't you blaming the 2 students and their parents?

Care to substantiate that?

You’re telling me that my kid being in an elementary school with 900 kids and classes of 25 kids is better than her K class of 16 kids with 2 full teachers, as well as a full curriculum of art, music, etc on top of the main subject areas?

Sure. That seems logical.

In your mind BCC and the Central Office handled the situation perfectly?

So... two girls were drunk at school at 8am (woah, commitment). They were found, sent to the hospital, and their parents were contacted. Seven hours later all parents were alerted to what happened. Why did all parents need to be contacted at all and why is it a problem for not-the-girls' parents that they were not contacted sooner?

Time to cut funding to Lyric Winik. Why are Lyric and other parents sending these messed up kids to our schools?
