Sadly, the BOE seems to rubber stamp MCPS and not hold the system accountable.

Dr. McKnight was a shoe-in since was a deputy superintendent and then basically guaranteed the main gig when she served as acting superintendent.

The unfortunate thing about school board elections is that most people don't pay attention, so some bad candidates get elected. Until things get so bad that it's time to clean house. Now is that time.

Also, it's time make our BOE full-time.

The unfortunate thing about MoCo school board elections is everyone votes for the most liberal Democrats.

Agree that this is a problem. We keep voting for the same people so we get the same nonsense.

Problems like this are much much worse in red parts of the country. I can post dozens of articles about teens overdosing at school in WV if you'd like.

No they're not, lol. But you keep believing in your "bubble" world of MCPS. Too funny.

They want to justify the fact that they paid more for their house to be in a W cluster.

Kids in MCPS go to school because they are hangout clubs where they can do whatever they want these days with impunity. Kids passed out drunk in BCC is a common occurrence to all of the widespread and out of control drug use in MC public high schools. Everyone already knows the problems are so bad in Moco schools that they have to now completely lock the bathrooms in schools to prevent all of the drug use. Scores continue to decline, discipline is zero, and there is never any accountability. Why does anyone pay taxes for these craptacular results? If all we are paying for are spaces where idiot kids can behave like lord of the flies, time to cut spending to the bone and give tax payers their money back. All of that billions is sure as hell not be used for learning. MCPS continue to go down the tubes.

So move just move. Leave MCPS move to Alabama, MO, Mississippi, Arkansaw is a great place with Sarah Sanders grooming kids, or how about South Dakota, or Oklahoma, or Floridumb..

Seriously move.

I agree move, we did, it's lovely. The children behave, the teachers are happy and oh, to the amazement of all, the children are actually learning and being educated. MCPS decline was not swift, but it was inevitable given the direction of politics in the region. Couldn't be happier with our family decision. I agree, move.

For someone who is so happy to have left MCPS, it sure seems like you're spending a lot of time thinking about it. Honestly we don't need you in this discussion. Move on.

that behavior should not be tolerated, for the sake of the teachers and other students who actually want to learn. i don't understand how this student is allowed to continue to behave this way.

Teachers and admin can't physically stop a student from engaging in this behavior. The only solution is to not allow them back in the room but then they're denied access to education. Putting them in a special placement takes almost an entire school year of data collection, meetings, testing, etc. Even then, it's no guarantee. Until then, students and staff are essentially held hostage by these students.

This right here is the problem and it’s because of how laws are written. It should not take a year of data collection to move a kid to a different type of classroom and environment. If an administrator needs to come to class for your behavior multiple times in a week, the student cannot engage in a gen Ed class. Now said student may not need a special Ed class, and may not need a different circumstance forever, but the child certainly needs one now becuase they are denying themselves and others an education. Maybe the education this students needs most is on civilized behavior and expectations. Maybe it’s on how to cope with big emotions. Maybe the family needs the same and thus needs to come into school everyday for a time until the situation is under control. Either way, it shouldn’t take a year to start making some changes. We don’t have to suspend every kid, but we do have acknowledge that significant action is needed.

I’m not PP, but we opted out of MCPS too. If you all can come onto the private school forum and tell us how entitled our kids will be and how it’s no better than public school, then don’t be upset when we come over here and ask why you’re still in a district with almost daily issues with kids bringing guns in, passing out drunk in the bathroom, and posting abysmally low MCAP scores.

I can pretty much guarantee you that by far the majority of MCPS parents don't GAF about you all and barely anyone is going on the private school forum unless they're desperate to prove something. Don't be one of those people.

Agreed. I was reading more details about the young kid in VA who shot his teacher and there was a long trail of issues. It should NOT get to that point.

If your private has the same population you’d see the same issues. Instead you have the same drugs and other things but they are just more quiet. And, privates hold back the kids so they look smarter than they are. Academics are not as advanced in math which is an issue for real smart kids. Not just kids of rich parents.

And I guarantee if they took that silly MCAP test their scores would be about the same. I also noticed the nationally recognized tests that MCPS uses like MAP show scores well above the national average for every grade. Don't where they state got MCAP but they should put it back where they found it because it seems to be broken.

As far as the kids in the BCC bathrooms, the sickening nature of that is the kids who took pics and sent them around school all day and the parents biTTching they didn't know enough right away and need to know more. No one cares about the student's and their privacy. Humanity is repulsive anymore.

And bring back corporal punishment!

Where is this magical land? I’m on four online teacher boards that pull membership from all over the US. Everyone is trying to find greener pastures, if not leave the profession altogether. DH and I have an empty nest in 18 months. Tell me where all the teachers are happy and the children are learning so I can start my applications.
